Hi, I'm back to an older computer where I already had Firefox installed. I have it installed and synchronized on 3 other computers and it works perfectly there. My main issue is that in the settings, Firefox is supposed to open with all the tabs I had opened when I closed it. It doesn't... It sends me to the home page. Second issue, also unique: I'm using Duck and go as search engine, and I have the same issue: it doesn's save my preferences (when it does on the same computer with Brave browser) Should I uninstall it all and try again? I already applied all the solutions suggested in th online help pages...

Thanks! Best,

No Session Restore Issue

If you check the menu, can you restore manually? To check on that:

  • "3-bar" menu button > History > Restore Previous Session
  • (menu bar) History > Restore Previous Session

If they are missing or grayed, check either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • "Library" toolbar button > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • (menu bar) History > Recently Closed Windows

Anything there?

Website Preferences / Logged-in Status Issue

Sites set persistent cookies -- cookies that expire on a future date -- in order to store a token proving that you've already satisfied their sign-in requirements (or with parameters that apply even when you aren't signed in to the site). It sounds like your cookies are getting cleared between sessions.

Check Your Settings

Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings (previously "Options")
  • type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter to load it

In the left column, click Privacy & Security. Then on the right side, scroll down to the History section. What do you see here?

(A) Firefox will: Remember history

Firefox is not set to clear your history, so this isn't the culprit.

(B) Firefox will: Never remember history

Firefox is using automatic private browsing and you cannot retain open tabs or cookies between sessions. You need to switch to remembering history.

(C) Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

With this one, you'll need to review individual checkboxes:

[_] Always use private browsing mode => if this is checked, you cannot retain open tabs or cookies between sessions. You need to uncheck it.

[X] Remember browsing and download history => this needs to be checked to keep open tabs between sessions.

[?] Clear history when Firefox closes => if this is checked, use the Settings button to the right to see what Firefox is flushing when it closes. You may need to tweak those items or just turn this off completely.

Did you find any issues here?

Firefox history and cookies also can be cleared by add-ons and by external cleaning/privacy programs, but let's make sure the Firefox settings are okay as the first step.

I also have to add another weird behaviour that never happened to me before: Everytime i quit and come back and open Gmail, I have to veryfy my account! Yet, The "never ask for this computer again" is preselected. I opend and closed 10 times Firefox today, I got the same issue with my gmail again... Also: I uninstalled (with revo uninstaller), reinstalled Firefox: the issues are still all there...

Hi Jsher 2000, I'm pretty sure you found my issue, as my history is cleaned at the end of every session. I'm going to try and follow your steps. The weird thing is: I don't have this issue with my other computers and they're supposed to be synched... Anyway, I will try your solutions; seems they mihg solve the issue.. I'll keep you posted as soon as I go through this, probably in the morning (France timeline here). Thanks a lot

Best regards Paul
