I have been using Thunderbird for 10+years and was able to set up Gmail accounts without any problem. Currently, there are 3 Gmail accounts configured under Thunderbird and those all are working fine. I needed to add one more GMAIL account, everything seems to go through OK, but near the end, it fails with an error message: "Unable to login at the server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."

I also installed Thunderbird on MAC and repeated the same steps to configure GAMIL account and got the same error message.

The same errors occur if I configure APP PASSWORD in Gmail and then try to configure GAMIL account in Thunderbird using APP PASSWORD. Still got the same error message.

I am unable to get Thunderbird to work after my microsoft password was updated. I get the popup & enter my email & new password, but I never get the second popup to accept permissions. It just doesn’t go any further. I can see Failed login attempts for TB on the microsoft side. I am not too tech savvy, so I’m doing my best to troubleshoot!

This is Thunderbird 78.14.0 on mac 10.11, YES, that is old, it is a legacy mac! It was successfully setup with OAuth2 over 3 years ago & worked fine until the password update. I was able to add TB to an old 10.15 mac & it got the permissions popup & the account was added fine (but it is also using TB 150.0.2). Oddly, there was no 2FA prompts given, it just connected with my password only??

I had a number of devices that needed passwords updated, so I’m wondering if there was a conflict when trying to do this one? Do I need to delete certain files? I found where to delete the stored passwords & did that, but it’s not moving past that point to even store new ones & connect. I can’t grant permissions?

Also, I notice the successful TB login activity shows my IP address, whereas the unsuccessful one shows Browser Mozilla Firefox. I’m not sure if that helps with troubleshooting or not!

good day, i'm trying to add a new GMX email account to thunderbird, but i keep getting an error telling me that the user name and or password are incorrect, but they are not. i already have two (2 ) other GMX email accounts on thunderbird and they are working just fine. i had a similar issue last week with my Hotmail/Outlook account telling me it couldn't connect for the same reason, but that seemed to work itself out and that one is working fine. i've been using thunderbird for quite a while now and never had any issues integrating GMX email accounts. thank you for your time...Mike S

Hi I cannot add my BT mail account. I keep getting authentification error. I can use Firefox to login to my email account so I know the password is ok. The account recently had 2 step verification added. Could this be the problem? My email account has two sub email id's. I have added both these email addresses to Thunderbird and they work fine. I use POP3. The two addresses that were added were done using the automatic installation. I have tried to manually setup the problem address but to no avail.

It may be a BT problem because I tried to change my password, I went through all the on screen prompts and received confirmation of a password change but I still can only login to my emails using Firefox with the old password. The new password doesn't work.

I have recently downloaded Mozilla thunderbird, but am having trouble with adding accounts (outlook and gmail). I keep getting the "Authentication failed" error. Have tried other solutions online, like disabling the Account Hub, but nothing changes. I understand that may no longer be a solution. Is there anything else I can try?

I have tried multiple times to setup a new Outlook email to Thunderbird. I already have one setup and that's fine, but when trying to connect my new email account I keep getting the error

I've tried everything to fix it.

The setup configuration all goes well, but then connection just won't happen. I've checked in Outlook and I have given Thunderbird permission but still it won't work.

I have the latest Thunderbird on my laptop. I have turned off the hub, but it still appears when I add an account. Sigh!

Thunderbird keeps opening a Google authentication window, asking which account to use. I have two gmail accounts (both of which work just fine), and another google account that I manage a calendar for (it works fine as well). How do I work out which account is seeking authentication?

Thunderbird stopped working a week ago, and I've wasted HOURS trying to uninstall and reinstall the app in hopes of getting it to work. Best I can do is get it to run, accessing my gmail account, but I'm interrupted repeatedly by screens asking me to choose my gmail account, followed by a screen that asks me to click on a 'give access' button that appears nowhere on the screen. Such a shame that you folks and Google have collaborated in a way that makes a very nice app completely unusable. If you and Google can ever get the access issues resolved, pls advise via email and I make one last attempt to get the app to work: rws.pgh@gmail.com.

I'm running Thunderbird most recent version. After changing my Google password, I can no longer connect through Thunderbird to Gmail. I've tried uninstalling Thunderbird and reinstalling. I've tried deleting the Gmail acct info from Thunderbird and setting it up again. I get the pick IMAP screen, enter my new Google password, then get a Google 400 error stating "The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried."

Any ieas?

I double checked all data (IMAP and SMTP ports, passwords, mail adress, ... And I tried it on 2 brandnew computers (one PC; one laptop), running on Windows 11 I've no idea, what else I could do

I can't access to my personal Google account from Thunderbird.

Thunderbird configuration is OK. Cookies authorised.

e-mail account connection process goes this way: - I enter name and e-mail address - I confirm standard configuration found in Thunderbird's FAI database. - Google asks me to confirm that I authorise Thunderbird to share mail, contacts and agenda informations (I was asked my Google pwd only the first time I tried the process). - I confirm my consent - Back to Thunderbirds account configuration window, with "authentication error".

Similar failure when I try to only connect to the contact list or to my calendars (which is my initial will), also from a scholar Google account.

After moving my Thunderbird profile to a new computer none of my accounts can authenticate. I followed the instructions here: Move Thunderbird data to a new computer, using "An alternative method for manual transfer between Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers." What explains the response in the attached image, "Something went wrong," and how can I fix it? Happens when I click "Next", the first step to log it.

I have a related problem with other accounts set up in the profile. This one is using Oauth2. I tried switching to password, and hand a similar problem. I tested the connection to the server in Settings for the account and it was successful. Same for the others. They all authenticate successfully on my old computer.

Since the launch of Thunderbird (Android), I have been using it. Recently I changed the email account password and now want to update it in Thunderbird. I can’t find an option in the app to update the password, and the app is not prompting me to enter the new password.

As so many have experienced, but I have yet to find the actual solution, I will bring up the issue.

I recently purchased a new computer. Installed Thunderbird, created all the mail accounts I have and... no problems. All the accounts, once created, populated with emails. For 3-4 days, there were no issues.

Important to note: I let TB use all the default settings. And once everything was up and running >>>>I did not change anything<<<<<.

Then a few days later, I started getting the following messages for two accounts that had migrated from q.com to myctl.net. Entering the 100% proven-correct password results in the know endless-loop of entering the password and the same pop-up error message. The PW is 100% correct as I can go to Centurylinks' website and login using that same, exact password and read my emails.

I've spent enough time trying all the suggestions here, reddit, facebook etc so I'd thought I'd see if anyone has actually found a solution.

Hey, I want to set up my .gmx.de mail account in thunderbird (140.10.0esr (64-bit), Mozilla Thunderbird Snap for Ubuntu). it used to work, on my phone and the gmx website it is working. I did not change any of my credentials but suddenly it raised the "unable to log in to ..." error on my laptop only (Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS). After several tries I deleted the account and tried to set it up again from scratch. It finds a server profile which is consistent with the one on my phone (where it is working just fine) but login is not possible using the same password.
