Some smart phones simply don't have the hardware to run Firefox. The Galaxy Y has an ARMv6 processor (Firefox requires a v7, though there are plans to possibly support v6 in the future). It also only has 290 MB of RAM, Firefox requires 512.

The Samsung Galaxy Y was the cheapest smartphone available in the Galaxy series to-date when released so it is no surprise for it to not be able to handle mobile Firefox with it having the older ARMv6 and low RAM amount as many budget smartphones can have.

They are looking in possibly supporting ARMv6 devices again (best if they have 512+Mb Ram also) as experimental builds in past up till early last year were slow, larger and unstable due to ARMv6 support things that the ARMv7 can.

James, Tylerdowner,

Thanks for getting back on the question.

Well I understand that firefox mobile requires hign-end processor or the hardware configuration to work, but the question is WHY??

I agree Samsung Galaxy Y is the cheapest among the series, but at the same time, it is the most POPULAR one as well, and I believe is the bestselling one among the series. So when the number of people using the handset are large, then why not make Firefox compatible with the low-end phones like Samsung galaxy Y, when browsers like Dolphin and Opera are.

Why is there a limitation?

Cheers, Pavan

ARMv7 processors have options that make Firefox mobile smaller and faster.
