Tabs reload each and every time they gain focus

I tend to use multiple tabs at once - not an extreme amount, maybe 10-20, so I can rapidly task switch. But recently, each tab does a full reload EVERY time I switch to it or it otherwise gains focus. Not only does this slow me down immensely (my DNS is not very fast) but it wastes quite a lot of my time waiting and often causes data loss if I had been entering data on the tab that reloads.

My research says that there is a config option about "disable autoreload", but I can't access about:config. When i type it in the address bar it just treats it as a normal search.

This is incredibly infuriating. I've been using Firefox since the Netscape/Mozilla days, do I finally have to switch to Chrome?
