At the bottom of a movie channel, Criterion, on which I was playing a streaming movie that choked toward the end, I clicked on what appeared to be a Firefox update. It said it would eliminate, I think, add-ons and extensions, whatever they are. Suddenly my Firefox start page was different, with various programing promotional boxes, and no place to access my Google email, as before. And it searches very slowly. And when I went back to Criterion, it said it couldn't download the film I was watching and to use a compatible browser, though I was using the new Firefox. All I want at this point is my old Firefox browser back.

Sounds like the refresh option.

Refreshing Firefox -- easily fix most problems

If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks and open tabs. Everything else, like user settings and add-ons, are removed.
Note: Refresh saves your old profile to the desktop in a folder called Old Firefox.
