If i click cancel twice instead of entering my master password I can use Thunderbird anyway. This is a serious bug I believe. I use version 31.4.0, win7 sp1. Thanks.

It isn't a bug. The master password is protecting account passwords you told Thunderbird to remember. It isn't supposed to protect the profile. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Protect_the_profiles_contents
