After a reboot and Windows 11 update today, Thunderbird (I believe it was v155) will not open. It asks for the password, then sits at [Not Responding].

I have copied my profiles (there are two, one dated 2023 with only a 1K .json file in it, and one created tonight while I was troubleshooting that's several GB and when copying, appears to contain all my mail folders although I can't access them directly from within the profile) to a separate location (my desktop).

I've tried the following (after checking previous questions here in Mozilla support):

(1) booting Windows into safe mode

(2) opening Thunderbird in Troubleshooting mode (Shift while opening), both in Windows safe mode and normal boot

(3) uninstalled Thunderbird from Control Panel, downloaded and installed a new copy of Thunderbird

All give the same result: "not responding", can't click anything. Can only wait or close.

I was able to disable an extension that I installed yesterday that had been working fine.

I'm also wondering if the problem is mail folders that are too large. I have some candidates for deletion but since I can't see any .msf files for them, I can't delete (because I can't open Thunderbird.

I'm leery of instructions to outright delete any Thunderbird folders/files because (1) I can't see my mail folders directly and (2) I'm self-employed and all my client and business emails are in there. Losing them woud be a disaster.

I'm tempted to try the Windows option of restoring my entire computer to an earlier point, say, this morning. But that seems like possible overkill if it's an issue with just Thunderbird.

I'm freaking out, please help!

When are you finally fixing the exponentially raising problems to work with Thunderbird and Gmail? It is getting totally out of hand! Since my upgrade to the latest version NOTHING works anymore!

After stating TB the imap.gmail.com is running forever, freezing TB up. After ending the hung up programs 5 TB processes remain. Even after trying to kill them in the taskmgr, one remains active forever, is NOT kill-able anymore, and PC needs to be rebootet. End of story!

TB become a HORRIBLE Disaster!

Firefox has recently started turning itself off. There is a failure message and it self-reports the issue. However it will do this without any website loaded, it just fails to continue running without a website being loaded. This happens everyday. The application will not continue to run just by being an open application with an empty about:newtab This is very frustrating.

When starting thunderbird, the program cannot find my e-mails and does not respond. It is frozen. deinstallation and new installation did not help. The version i do not know because I cannot open the menue.

I have several open email tabs but they are showing nothing and when I find the email in my in box it opens blank I've also had problems with thunderbird opening have had to restart computer several times?

Was on version 115, had this problem. Updated to version 155, same problem. One of the email accounts I set up on Thunderbird is redacted1@lake48.net, registered with 123-Reg. However, this is a forwarding address and has no email server, which is why I am getting the error now.

Messages addressed to redacted1@lake48.net are forwarded to redacted2@lake48.net, which does have a server, My system was to download from there and use a rule to divert the incoming message to my redacted1@lake48.net Inbox. This has worked OK until now. Thunderbird gives me this error right at the start and then does not respond, so I cannot get in to investigate account settings, and cannot access emails in other accounts such as gmail. 123-Reg has today changed its system, assuring me I don't need to change anything. Clearly I do, but I can't get in to change it.

What should I do to resolve this? I have no other access to my emails.

I mostly watch YouTube channels on Firefox on my laptop, but recently have had to change over to Microsoft Edge browser to watch YouTube. The reason is that during a channel stream, when an ad wants to play, YouTube and Firefox freeze and the only way to exit the screen is to either attempt to close YouTube or even open Task Manager to shut down all instances of the Firefox software. Firefox is by far my preferred browser and I'm frustrated that it is unusable in its current state. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, but this did not work. Thank you in advance for your help.

Since 3rd September 2026 Thunderbird opens a system integration window and then goes to not responding. I cannot access my emails through this software at all at the moment as there's no way past his pop up. Version 153.1.1, Windows 11 Home.

I have been using Thunderbird for years with no problems. However recently, Thunderbird very often simply stops responding. Sometimes it just hangs up and sometimes the program bar at the top displays "Mozilla Thunderbird (Not Responding)". If I try to wait for it to respond, it literally hangs for several minutes before it begins to respond again, and often, it simply never starts responding again. It has simply gotten to the point where Thunderbird is practically unusable. All my other application software continues to work with no problems. It's just Thumderbird.

The version number in this submission may not be correct. I can't provide the real version number because of the hangups.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I have been a Thunderbird user for many years and have over 16,000 emails in my account.

Today when I launched TB it comes up with blank screen with No Response on the top left. See screen shot image upload.

I have tried launching with Thunderbird -P and it only shows default account named default.

- other places show 3 accounts with one having -release

--Users\myuserID\local\Thunderbird\profiles:

   9qflpwnsdefault
   8593y64.default-release
   fsomy6as.default

--Users\myuserID\AppData\Roaming\profiles\ shows the 3 listed above.

I have tried launching Windows 11 in Safe Mode, same issue. I have tried the Troubleshoot Tool with same result.

Any ideas on how I can get TB to load correctly and show me my emails?

Hello, we have a DLL product that is injected into Firefox, and it generally works properly. However, from time to time, we encounter crashes like this in individual tabs.

I'm a Professional Web Designer, and I need to make a lot of meeting through Google Meet. I was using Chrome previously. When I try to use my Web Cam, Firefox completely crush my web cam. Means, no other apps can't use the web cam including Meet until I pull the flag out of my PC's USB port.

The only fix is to disable hardware acceleration. But I need that as well. So chating Gemini, I figured out that changing this rule media.windows-media-foundation.allow-d3d11-dxva to false on about:config fixes the issue with having Hardware Acceleration enabled.

It turns out that, according to some reddit uses, Firefox uses API from medieval age for handling DirectX3d.

I love Firefox, and I want it to grow nowadays more than ever by looking at the browser market and what they are doing with Ad Blockers. Please take a look at Firefox's performance for the good.

My System: OS: Windows 11 Pro CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270k Plus GPU: NVIDIA 5070 TI 16GB No shortage of SSD and Ram. Plenty of them available.

Can Firefox work on that issue, so I don't have to go to workaround like this? I love Firefox and I want it to compete with chromium for good. But having issues like this left us no option but to choose alternative.

Thunderbird widow is coming up on the sceen and says loading mesages. Does not happen. And it is not possible to promt. It is also impossible to quit the programme, I have to turn off the lap top. I have upgraded, seems to be ok. but the problem is still there. Geir H W

When I try to start Thunderbird on my Windows 11 laptop it does not start properly It is haging ond after a whike i get a message that thunderbird does not respond ("svarar inte" in swedish). Sometimes if I try to reinstall Thunderbird it starts up, But today nothing happens.
