TB 91.10 Misaligns text when sending and other odd behavior

I have an e-mail account where the "Composition: Compose messages in HTML format" box is Unchecked. I construct the body of an e-mail to be sent using a plain text editor (Kedit for Windows). The text of this e-mail contains absolutely no special characters (and that means there are zero Tab characters in there either). I selected the text within the text editor, copied it to the Windows clipboard, and then pasted it into the (initially empty) e-mail body in Thunderbird. The e-mail was then sent (by clicking on the Send button).

Unfortunately, Thunderbird changes the e-mail body when sending which results in lines being misaligned (blanks are either inserted or removed).

When I highlight the message in the Sent folder and then click on "View -> Message Source", the misaligned e-mail is displayed in another window titled "Source of: mailbox:///C:/Tbird_RJR_Raicer/Sent?number=2793 - Mozilla Thunderbird". If I attempt to save a copy of the content of this window by clicking on "File -> Save Page As ...", the "Save As' dialog window opens as expected. However, when clicking on the Save button in that window, no file is created (I've searched the entire system and the file does not exist).

When going back to the main Thunderbird window which is displaying the Sent folder, highlighting the e-mail, and then selecting "File -> Save as -> File" the "Save Message As" window opens. I put a complete file name (full path included) in the "File Name" box, select "Text Files" from the "Save As Type:" dropdown box, and then click the Save button. The file is created as expected. When looking at this file it can be seen that Thunderbird has inserted the three byte string 0xEF, 0xBB, 0xBF as the first three bytes of the file. This is the UTF-8 representation of the Byte Order Mark. From what I've read, the Unicode Standard permits this BOM string to be present, but it is recommended to NOT inlcude it in UTF-8 streams. Throughout the remainder of the e-mail body, Thunderbird has replaced many (but not all) of the Blanks (0x20) with Non-Breaking-Spaces (the two byte sequence of 0xC2, 0xA0).

So, there are a number of issues here:

-There is clearly a defect in the code which deals with saving the e-mail content when in the "View -> Message Source" path.

-The text of the e-mail body becomes misaligned by Thunderbird when it is being sent.

-The Byte Order Mark and Non-Breaking-Spaces stuff behavior is completely undesirable (and feels plain wrong for a plain text e-mail).

How can I get Thunderbird to NOT mess with the spaces (blanks) in the e-mail body?

How can I get Thunderbird to NOT insert the BOM at the start of the e-mail file and NOT change spaces to Non-Breaking-spaces?

I can provide supporting files if you can tell me how to do so. Thanks for the help.

I am not sure what you did on this last up date but Wow! My email program/messages are all messed up-- all the folders-now it doesn't want to move email to their right folder when you select to move however it will delete another email not move original one, does not want to create any folders.. just a mess!! Try coping messages to correct folder but will not do so..Running very slow and dragging..Will not permit me to move messages to specified folders....This is been since update and continues to do so..This is so frustrating I'm going to stop using this email program. It runs for while and just fine until an update and all goes to hell---not broke don't fix it!! Version 102.0 64 bit

I recently bought a new laptop on which I installed Thunderbird to use as my email program for work (self-employed). I was able to transfer all my folders and messages from my Thunderbird account on my old laptop to my new one. I did not change any of the Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings. Here's a screen shot of my Outgoing Server settings.

Today my Thunderbird United Folders Inbox stopped showing both mail accounts it was set up to show. I checked its properties, and it has both mail accounts' Inboxes checked. I rebooted and no change. I can only see new or old emails from the account that is missing by clicking that specific account's Inbox in the left folder tab. This is Thunderbird 91.11.0 on a PC. Attached is a screenshot of the first properties window for the United Folders Inbox.

I am experiencing a problem using Thunderbird 91.10.0 when attempting to log-in to my ISP's POP3 mail server. The problem does not occur all of the time, however, once it occurs it persists for days.

The ISP's POP3 mail server uses SSL/TLS with Normal Password Authentication on port 995. I never permit Thunderbird to "rememeber " the password for this account.

The issue is that after entering a valid password in the "Enter your Password" pop-up dialog box and subsequently receiving no error messages, no e-mails are fetched. When using a web browser interface to the same POP3 server it can be seen that quite a few e-mails are present.

As an interesting tidibt, it was discovered that entering an incorrect/invalid password in the "Enter your Password" pop-up dilog box produces the same incorrect result. For this interaction I would have expected the "Sending of username did not succeed. Mail server responded: authentication failed: LOGIN failed" pop-up. However, this does not occur.

So, my ISP and I would like to know if there is some facility within Thunderbird to trace the request and response interactions between Thunderbird and the POP3 server. If so, how do I enable it and see the corresponding information? At this point we (me and the ISP) do not understand what's going on leading to the incorrect and unexpected behavior.

As another tidbit of information, things work correctly when running Thunderbird 60.5.1 interacting with the same ISP. Even a very old version (45.7.0) of Thunderbird works fine with the same ISP (all connections settings are the same).

This is all very strange!

I have seen upgrading from thunderbird version 52.0 to version 91.10.0 has had the unwanted side effect of making certificates in the thunderbird certificate manager disappear for both "Your certificates" and "People".

The only way to get the certificates back is before upgrading from version 52.0 to 1st export the certificates for "Your certificates" and "People" and then upgrade thunderbird to version 91.10.0 and then turn around and Import all of the "Your certificates" and "People".

The export is a little faster but the import is very slow and tedious as each certificate has to be imported individually. Is there any way to mass import all of the backed-up/exported certificates as opposed to importing them individually?

Since I'm going to end up with the latest TB (91?) on my new Win10 PC, my question is sequencing: should I upgrade my current TB Ver.68 on the old Win7 PC to the latest TB (91) and THEN install TB on the new PC and migrate the data to the new PC?

I'm *thinking* this would be the safest way to make this transition, but I'd sure like some opinions from those who know a whole lot more about this than I do.

I am running Windows Live Mail (WLM) on Windows 10 and trying - but failing - to migrate my message store to Thunderbird. I have vast numbers of WLM messages stored in a structure of Local Folders which I wish to retain. I would prefer if possible to import the folders structure into Thunderbird rather than take the very long (and frequently failing) process of exporting all the WLM messages (into what format?).

I installed Thunderbird a few months ago and added the ImportExportTools NG add-on. However the 'Import from folder' option was always greyed-out for some reason. Having started to test this again I updated Thunderbird, but now have Ver 102 for which there is no updated NG tool :-( Various web sources suggest to download an earlier version of Thunderbird (eg 91) from the web - but where??? I can't find anything to download other than the latest version.

I've used Thunderbird in the past and want to use it again, but having read every help info and thread that I can find about the migration problem, I've yet to find a solution which actually works. Can anyone help please? I can't simply abandon about 10 years of mail messages, but I'm moving to a new Windows 11 PC in due course so I want to get off WLM first.

Searched my harddrive for .msf files mentioned in other fixes and while I am sure they are there they must be hidden from me. Its just me, one computer - no company or other server setup. Would happily pay for help if there were a number to call to solve this problem

It has been nearly a week since downloading Thunderbird 102. Had to call Ionos server support representatives to try and fix problems and my many emails to Support at Thunderbird and there is still a problem. One would think putting a burden on providers is not a good idea. There should be a way when Thunderbird issues 103 it is tested first on a community of people each having different server providers and their laptops to work things out. New problem is trying to send an email. Yes, trying to send an email to my email address to myself showing current time so I know if sending is working and how long. Emails do not send. However if I go to my Android sending an email to my email address with message saying 6:30 it takes less than a second for email to arrive on this Windows 10. and encrypt is off. Why is this happening?

  • I can open the calendar tab, but that's it.
  • There is no calendar on the calendar list, and the 'plus'-icon to add a new calendar is greyed out.
  • There are buttons to change the views (week, day etc) but these also are greyed out.
  • Same issue with tasks: I can open the tab, but cannot add any tasks

It all worked with older versions of TB. I had several calendars in place, no problem. But after some upgrade everything is gone. The calendars, originally set up on TB, are still there, but only accessible on the g-account...

Version: TB 91.11. Add-ons: Provider for google calendar

Any idea? I really want to use TB calendar function instead. If I could at least only set up a new calendar, that would be very helpful. Thx a lot in Advance!

'Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Requested action aborted: local error in processing.

Please check the message recipient "email address that is being sent to" and try again
