Today Feb15th after prompting I chose to upgrade my firefox browser. However on starting up the new version, to my dismay, my bookmarks have disappeared (I had a lot) and my web browser history. After some research Mozilla states that bookmarks and web history is stored in the file places.sqlite file. How do I recover bookmarks and history from this file? My places.sqlite file is over 10 Mb in size which suggests to me that info is inside it. I'd be grateful for any and all assistance.

I'm on 44.0.2 and tried all of the suggested fixes, such as using:

 1) about:permissions and setting Fullscreen on either for all sites or a specific on.
NOTE: The Fullscreen setting no longer exists on 44.0.2 for about:permissions
 2) Using the Page Info -> Permission and again setting Fullscreen to always allow.
NOTE: The Fullscreen setting no longer exists on 44.0.2 for Permissions with Page Info

The specific failing URL with a video is:

http://www.gq.com/story/damn-daniel-vans-ellen-lifetime-supply

When you press the Fullscreen button on the video it brings up the help page at:

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6276924

Those instructions do NOT work for Firefox 44.0.2 nor do any of the currently available via search helps using Firefox search or forums.

I'm looking for another solution, I guess based upon the recent changes. SIGH!

Why push out code faster than the help file and/or documentation?????????

An internal page at work (so unfortunately I can't share a link) just shows "A plugin is needed to display this content" instead of video content. Doing an "Inspect element" shows that the content is an mp4 video in an object tag.

I understand that Firefox should be able to play mp4 video, as long as I have the required codec: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Supported_media_formats

I tried the Windows update files suggested here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1047078 but they would not install on my Windows 7 64-bit system (I get a message that they do not apply to my system).

On the same post, it suggested checking the values of media.windows-media-foundation.enabled and media.directshow.enabled in about:config. The first setting does not exist for me, and the second setting is enabled (set by default). Interestingly, the test site on that page works fine for me ( http://techslides.com/demos/sample-videos/small.mp4 ).

Since the "supported media formats" page specifically mentions H264 encoded MP4 as needing a plugin, I checked my addons page for plugins that need enabling. All are enabled or set to "ask", but there is one plugin that seems relevant, that is permanently stuck on "will be installed shortly" status: the Cisco OpenH264 video codec.

Since this plugin seems like it might be relevant, I tried to find a way to force a manual installation. I tried setting the media.peerconnection.video.h264 setting in about:config as suggested here, but that did not change any behavior as far as I can tell: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1047159

I tried downloading the zip file manually from http://ciscobinary.openh264.org/openh264-win32-v1.1-Firefox33.zip and extracting to C:\Users\{myUserName}\appdata\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{idOfSomeKind}.default\gmp-gmpopenh264\1.1 as suggested here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1013339

That did not work either. I did not understand the part about media.gmp-gmpopenh264.* prefs; none of those settings exist in my about:config except for media.gmp-gmpopenh264.autoupdate.

The media.gmp-gmpopenh264.provider.enabled option noted on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1029174 does not exist.

In case it's not obvious, I did restart Firefox after every about:config change.

How can I convince Firefox to play embedded mp4 video? What plugin do I need and how do I install it, if I need one?

I had had my preferences for handling cookies in Firefox set to "Ask me every time." To avoid having to keep clicking on dialog boxes for the same site, I would check the box to use the same setting for other cookies on the site. This was an active setting that I used, and today I discovered that it has been eliminated. I had received no notice of this fact.

A site that I visited displayed a notice that it had a cookie policy that applied to people that visited it, and when I did not get asked whether I wanted to accept cookies, I opened up the preferences for cookies to make sure things were set the way I wanted them. I discovered that the option I had been using was gone.

I searched the Web and discovered that the version of Firefox I was now using had eliminated that option. Some pages suggested that if I'm using private browsing mode with tracking protection on, I don't have to worry about unwanted cookies, but I don't know how this works. (I do often use this mode, but don't know how it affects what I want to do with cookies.)

I also tried to find an address for contacting Mozilla about this, and was instead led to this support site.

Please tell me how I can control whether a site that I visit can set cookies, and what the consequences are of not having the "Ask me every time" option available.

Thank you for your help.

PROBLEM: Firefox v.39 is perfect. Firefox from v. 40 is unusable because scrolling a simple html page takes ages. Even the scrolling of the source of the page. But no problem in scrolling the page about:config

What has been added in v.40 that wasn't in v.39? Is there any new feature I can disable to regain the speed of v39? NB: I've already tried the normal options such as those in the advanced tab.

HI,

The update to 44 appears to have prevented the Tabs On Bottom extension doing what it does so now my address bar is below my tabs and I would like it above, where it has been for many years.

As you can see below, the address bar is now at the bottom rather than above the tabs as it was before this update.

Any ideas anybody?

Hi Team,

It seems the latest version of firefox 44 64bit version has some unknown issue with flash. If the website is using https and using flash to upload files or pictures, Firefox 64 bit always return a "Server IO error'.

I did some trouble shooting, it seems that Firefox return this error before it start "post". I tested this on several website, all the same. All these websites are not using self-signed certificate, so this problem is not related with the certificate.

And for firefox 32bit version , all good. So it means that there must be something wrong with 64bit Firefox. And it seems firefox 43 64bit doesn't have this issue.

After updating to 44.0, I am mostly unable to get FF to connect to the 'Net. Approximately 90% of the time It just hangs trying to connect.

I have found starting in safe mode works: FF connects to the 'Net.

I have found reinstalling 44.0 will work - just once. After that, FF hangs.

If I disable plugins and addons, FF _still_ does not connect.

1) I see other people are having this problem (see link above.)

2) What is the difference between disabling all addons and plugins and starting FF in safe mode?

For the last few years, when opening multiple tabs (esp. facebook. For example 2 dozen of facebook tabs, usually much less if other websites are already loaded on other tabs), black rectangles appear on the page, and after opening a few more tabs, Firefox becomes unresponsive and crashes. Since I already know what's coming, usually I don't let it come to this, but restart Firefox when black appears on the page. (to be more precise about this black thing: the whole page would be black and Firefox button and tabs would also not be displayed correctly (see attachment), and then when elements are graphically "rerendered", like on mouseover event, or when scrolling, they sometimes would be shown normally again.) Still, overall I've submitted so far over a thousand crash reports.

I tried reinstalling Firefox, "Refresh Firefox", and this behaviour still happens on safe mode. Since many times RAM usage would be maxed, I upgraded my RAM to see if the problem would be solved. While performance improved, the problem persisted and I found out there's no need for RAM usage to be maxed out for these crashes to happen. I believe unchecking the hardware acceleration setting didn't help either. I vaguely remember reading about an open bug about black on pages. One way or the other, any help or ideas how to solve this problem or what would be causing it would be greatly appreciated.
