To preface this, I am not sure if this is caused by my OS (Ubuntu 24.04) or by the way Firefox tends to work on Linux as other issues have been (and therefore, might be resolved with a change in about:config).

Problem: When I download a file and download another one right after that one, the window showing the folder I am choosing to download to won't show the file/image preview of the file I just downloaded before; it only shows the correct preview once I have opened the file manager on my OS; after doing that the file preview is up to date again. (basically, it only shows the correct file preview when I viewed the files on my desktop before opening the download window and will not keep up to date with the most recent changes on its own like it does on Windows for example)

When I didn't know what I was doing, within Settings for Firefox desktop browser for Windows 10 where you can make associations for file types or applications, I began putting choices in that I felt made sense at the time. I don't think I've made the best choices and I would like to change that entire section with the heading Content Type to the defaults that would have appeared in the Action column. Is there a way I can return the defaults only for Content Type without resetting everything in the browser to the state it was first in before I began customizing some areas? Thanks.

When I open a pdf file it is automatically saved to my desktop, which is my selected location. I have also checked the always ask where to save files. In settings I have indicated I want pdf files to be opened by Foxit Reader. Other files set to ask open or save.

I also have gone in into about:config and set browser.download.open_pdf_attachments_inline to true based on a previous reply in this forum about this issue.

What can I do to stop the PDF files from being automatically saved to my desktop?

Hello to everybody, I repeat my question and hope it can besolved persistantly: Opening local .mdb files (MS Access database) does no longer work in Firefox 139, but was ok in previous releases. The only choice is to save the file rather than opening it with the application MS access. Under Firefox settings/applications the file type .mdb does not appear, nor do I have a choice to decide how to open it. I expect to find an entry for .mdb files where to choose "always ask" as was the case earlier. Please help! Regards Volker Zipp

Anyone know if the Firefox app will be in the Microsoft Store soon for download?

I bought a new computer and if I download the app from the website I will permanently be taken out of S mode (I’m sure you guys are aware of this issue).

Im hoping the app will be available through the Microsoft Store very soon because I only use the Firefox browser on all of my other devices.

Is there a way around it other than permanently switching out of S mode and downloading? I’m aware I can do that but prefer not to.

 Since some days I have the problem that all files I download from outlook are accompanied by a preceding UTF-8 in the file name. This is not the case for e.g. google chrome. Can I fix this problem by myself, or is it a general problem of firefox 128.9esr (64-bit)?

I have my Firefox browser set to ask me where I would like to save my downloads. However, it never asks me. It just automatically sends everything to my downloads folder then opens the file in a new window. I then have to go into my downloads folder and save it where I want to save it. So I must go through the saving process twice. Given that I download a lot of files for my business, this gets real old real quick. I don't have this problem with Chrome. I would like to stick with Firefox, but I'm going to have to make a change if I can't get this issue fixes.

Hello When i download files it has started to put UTF-8 before the name of the file ? Why is that ? Because it doesn't do it if i try it in another browser.

I can't download ANYTHING on Firefox I've been tempted to switch to Chrome again because of this like why can I not download I don't THINK I did anything wrong either and it's really becoming frustrating I'm sorry

I just wanted to highlight a thing constantly bothering me while saving file through the browser.

Whenever I try to save file by default "UTF-8" is adding at the start of the file name I wanted to save.

Kindly look into this.

in the last couple of days every time i download the file it adds the above characters to the name. very annoying - i need then to rename every file. any suggestions?

Ex: i downloaded a file name questionare.xlsx the output for the file is UTF-8questionare.xlsx

When accessing Outlook (https://outlook.office.com) using Firefox ESR version 128.9.0 and attempting to download a file attached to an email, the string 'UTF-8' is automatically inserted at the beginning of the file name, which is causing issues. This phenomenon does not occur with other browsers such as Edge or Chrome.

Is there a way to solve this problem?
