When using private browsing window, bookmarks toolbar keeps disappearing every time I open a new tab or anything else. My setting for show bookmarks is "always show" and it works normally in a regular window. It also used to work normally in private browsing until a few days ago. Clicking "show bookmarks toolbar" works until I open any of the bookmarks, then the toolbar disappears again. How do I make the toolbar permanently visible in a private browsing window?

hello! hope you are doing well, I recently got this problem where the bookmark bar does not appear on my browser even though it is on the "always show" option, it appears when I first open the browser, but once I enter any site, it disappears again, even on new tabs, and when I try different options for the BM, it makes it appear for one use only. I tried looking for solutions on the internet but to no avail. can you help me fix it? thank you in advance!

This issue has arisen on Firefox for Linux Mint (my current version is 123.0 (64bit)). I like Firefox, and I like its bookmarks toolbar, and have used it for many years, but there seems to be a new bug introduced today:- The bookmarks toolbar is present and correct when I start Firefox, but now it disappears as soon as I select any bookmark, or if I enter any web address or if I open a new tab. The [View >Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar > Alway Show] option is already selected, but the toolbar is no longer visible. If I click on it again, the bookmarks toolbar reappears (or I can restart Firefox, and this will also restore the toolbar). But the toolbar now disappears as soon as I use the browser in any way, and so is currently not really of practical use, as it needs constant restoring. Hope you can help resolve this. Hi, my bookmarks toolbar doesn’t show when I launch Firefox. They always use to. When I click on View>Toolbar>Bookmarks Toolbar>Always Show - the Bar shows. When I click on any bookmark the bar disappears. If (in new window) I click on View>Toolbar>Bookmarks Toolbar>Always Show - the bar appears, when I then open new tab it does not show on new tab and when I click back to previous tab bookmarks are gone.

I have restarted W10 PC, no change.

Something went wrong w/ the mouse, some of my tags disappeared & wasn't able to recover them via Ctrl+Z, so I decided to perform my 1st [Restore] (never had to do 1 before), since I had just recently done an [Export Bookmarks] & a [Backup]. Everything seems to have gone Ok, except that for every tag, all of the bookmarks listed under the [Name] column are duplicated. When I right-click & [Show In Folder], they both show in the same folder. When going onto their folder, they are only shown once, so there are no duplicates there. When I attempt to [Delete] 1 of the 2 duplicate entries they both get [Deleted], so I can only conclude that they are 1 in the same. But the question remains, "How can I fix this duplicate condition?"

Another related & interesting behavior is that, from any bookmark folder where you can clearly see there are no duplicated bookmarks, when you do a [Search] from the top-right-hand search-box, the "results" are also "duplicated", although you might need to sort them by clicking on the [Name] column control. So, I can go to any bookmark folder & clearly see that there are no duplicate bookmarks, but when you do a [Search], that's when you get duplicate entries. That leads me to believe that this is the result of the [Search] function, & thus for some odd reason the [Search] is generating "duplicate entries". And then perhaps, both the [Tag]s & the [Search] function are related.

Also, this "duplication" does not happen on newer added bookmarks, after the [Restore] was executed, & it's only a phenomenon that affects those bookmarks that were saved by the Bookmarks' Library [Backup] function, & thus this anomaly was introduced by the [Backup].

Actually, I just realized the problem is more complicated than I thought. The reason any search results in "duplicate bookmarks" is because there are 2 sets of folders, 1 set above the other, & if you don't scroll down all the way you won't see it. So that's why there are actually "2 Sets Of Bookmarks", because there are "2 Sets Of Folders", 1 above the other. The problem is that when you delete any "Duplicate Bookmark" you delete them both, & not just 1 of the 2 bookmarks.

I wonder if it would work, to "Delete All Bookmarks" & then do a [Restore]?

Could "Mozilla Support" answer that?

Don't know why every time I attempt to [Post A Reply] & get an "Error",... So I'm going to post my reply right here,...

Fix: (2024-02-19) Of course, I did some testing before I concluded what was the best approach, but since I noticed all of the "Bookmarks Folders" were duplicated under [Bookmarks Menu], an easy fix is to go to the "bottom duplicated folder", right on top of the [Other Bookmarks] folder, & "Select It" (by clicking on it) & [Delete] it (w/ the [Delete] key on your keyboard). Do this 1 by 1, until you reach the "bottom folder" of the bookmarks' folder you certainly don't want to delete. Close Firefox & then reopen it - to make sure Firefox takes care of any garbage-collection. Then do your Bookmarks' Library [Export Bookmarks To HTML] followed by a [Backup], & you are good to go.

Actually, I don't know what introduced the error. Don't know if it was Firefox's [Restore] function, or it could have been me (by accident) w/ some "unnoticed & unexpected" move of the mouse/trackball, which accidentally duplicated all of the folders w/o me noticing, & that is why all of the "Bookmarks" were "duplicated".

When I save new bookmarks I can't find them to open them. The list of folders I see in the "Choose . . ." selection is different from the list of folders l see when trying to open a bookmark. The bookmarks seem to be saving in one list but opening from a different list. How do I replace the list Firefox opens bookmarks from with the list the new bookmarks are saved in?

The right click on a Folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar and choosing Sort by name stopped working. Please, fix it.

Hi, Folks. When I open "manage bookmarks" (Library), why does it always open at "other bookmarks"? This is at the very bottom of the alphabetical list (and empty) so I always have to scroll back up to the top. I've got a lot of bookmarks, so this is extremely irritating. How do I change this? I've searched for an answer. The only likely solutions suggest removing the "other bookmarks" folder, but the description of how to do that doesn't work. Nowhere can I find a "remove other bookmarks" option. And the delete option is greyed out.

I don't necessarily need to hide or remove it, as long as I can get the bookmarks manager/Library to open at the top, ie. "Bookmarks Menu".

I thought I had two different accounts. Home, with my personal email and work, with my work email. My work computer crashed a few months ago, and out IT department was able to recover all my bookmarks, but it wasn't easy, so I was told. I decided to do what I do at home and that was to create an account for work, which I did. I now have an account for home with it's own bookmarks, and email, and a work account with it's own bookmarks and totally different email. I recently got a work phone. In the process of setting it up I synced it up with my work account. when I came home tonight I got online and all my work bookmarks were on my home computer. How did this happen? Now I don't have my home bookmarks. I tried signing out and signing back in with my home account, but no luck. This is very frustrating especially since they are two totally different accounts. SO, how do I get my home bookmarks back on my home computer? Thanks

Is it possible to combine history/bookmark files? Firefox has truncated my "History" to 15 days and the only option I see to get elder entries is to combine a backupped history file with the current one. An easy-to-use tool for this task would be welcome. I did not change my config options after the update to 121.0.1 (64-Bit) (Windows 10pro) but I think I had the total history (from years) before the update. My current Options related to this topic are: browser.history_expire_days false places.history.expiration.max_pages false places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages 501234 privacy.clearOnShutdown.history false privacy.history.custom true history (*) Boolean Number String

I am a computer technician currently trying to write a small python script that will clear a users cache, cookies, and history in Firefox on a Mac.

From what I can tell, both the history and bookmarks for a user is saved in one file named "places" (specifically under "/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/[jargon].default-release/places.sqlite")

Is there a way to clear just the history for a user, that doesn't go through the browser GUI? I would really like to avoid mixing CLT with Selenium or something of that sort with python.

I accidentally deleted the blue star on one of my book-marked items and am struggling to get it back. Its very useful so i can see immediately if somethings already been bookmarked. Plus I could remove easily and/or put into other folders. All solutions appear to be to go to customize firefox and to drag and drop in some bar at the top of the page BUT when i do this it STILL doesn't come back. HELP!!! (Please explain in total laymens terms and don't nauseate me with technolingo.)

I installed firefox on a new pc and after loggin in and syncing my account all my pinned sites on the firefox homepage disappeared. Is there any way i can get them back?

The computers bookmarks after September 28 and before December 1 2023 are missing as well as the internet history in the mozilla browser only. I see no possible way of restoring them. I see no way to contact mozilla directly about this either.

I wasted about an hour trying to make my bookmarks within a folder I named (let's call it "Foolhardy books and CD's") be transferred to Chrome. Every single OTHER folder and bookmark within NOT called "mobile bookmarks" IS transferring!!! Worst is 1) I didn't start these bookmarks on the computer I'm using...and use 'sync' but no one ever told me that would become a dodo bird distinction when it comes to easy bm transfers. I have tried saving it in JSON or plain text on desk top as new folder and again, it just doesn't like the particular Foolhardy file from any otherwise complete 'add to Chrome from Firefox" etc. There's some dudes on a google search on this with a converter, but it doesn't do a darn thing, and no clear way to contact them "if somethings not working". My concern is if I can't get this bookmark folder to convert out of mobile format, its pretty pathetic, meaning it is trying to make me stay within Firefox/Mozilla format....ugggh!

Exported a bookmarks html file from Mac (Sonoma OS) and tried to import it in a computer running Zorin (linux) 17. The file can be found, but when I click it, I am told there are no bookmarks therein. If I open the HTML file it's all there. Full of bookmarks. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for reading.

Why on my new Windows 11 laptop I can only see 42 bookmarks and they are not alphabetized whereas on my Windows 10 desktop I stopped at 100 and I was only up to the G's and they are alphabetized? Is there any way to fix this?

Using the menu line, if I click Bookmark>bookmark current tab, it used to bring up a box where I could edit the tab name and location of where to save that tab. Now, in Dec 2023, it bookmarks it but does not bring up this box. In order to see where the bookmark is, I have to again select Bookmark, EDIT this bookmark. Is there a setting I need to now adjust to bring up that box when bookmarking for the first time? I have W10 and updated Firefox.
