Subject: Report of Shortcut Image Swap Issue in Firefox

Dear Firefox Support Team,

The issue I am facing relates to the shortcut images associated with different websites and web applications pinned on Firefox’s New Tab page and bookmarks bar. Instead of displaying the correct icons for their respective websites, these shortcuts are randomly swapping their images with one another.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Open Firefox.

2. Pin multiple websites to the Shortcuts Section, each with its unique icon.

3. Over time (minutes, hours, or days), observe that the shortcut images have switched places with other shortcuts, leading to a mismatch between the icons and the associated websites.

This issue seems to occur without any user intervention and appears entirely random in its behavior.

The ongoing issue with shortcut image swaps is perplexing and disrupts my browsing experience as I rely on these visual cues for quick and efficient navigation.

Last October my sessions were gone after a Firefox Update. I asked for help here: https://support.mozilla.org/sv/questions/1394685 and eventually got kind help from @cor-el (that unfortunately wasn't skilled enough to understand) and from @RayGibson57. But by then, my life was in a flurry and I didn't have time to try the advice. And so, after a while I had, with some effort, gathered many of the old tabs back again, and built up new sessions.

This Monday I was trying to internet while having high fever (something people should never do :o ). I left three blank windows open when I shut down the computer, and next morning those three were the only ones Firefox wanted to remember.

(I still find this change frustrating, bordering on infuriating: what happened to "Choose how many old sessions you want Firefox to remember", I think the maximum was ten?)

Now the fevers left and I went to those answers to try. That Q/A was archived though, so I'm starting again here, from as far as I got following King Rays instructions. They were:

1. Open the application menu (3 horizontal lines) next to the address bar.
2. Click on Help -> More troubleshooting information.
3. With that page open, find Profile Folder and click on Open Folder. That's how you get to the folder with backup files in it.
4. Set computer up to see all the extensions & system files. By default, the extensions don't show up (.jsonlz4 is an extension).
5. I found an older file in that sessionstore-backups folder and copied it one level back to the main profile folder.
6. Renamed the sessionstore.jsonlz4 to sessionstore.jsonlz4.old and the file I copied, I renamed to sessionstore.jsonlz4.
7. Opened Firefox and that missing window was in the history so I could open it.
8. Don't make any typos here, because Firefox won't find the files it needs to open.

I got as far as finding the Profile folder and the sessionstore-backups folder.

But I cant find any jsonlz4 file called "sessionstore". Only a "sessionsCheckpoints" and that one is a json file, and the date modified is today.

Can anyone talk me trough this like Im a grandmother from Sweden with extremely limited coding & tech skills (which is what I am)?

This morning i restarted firefox and it only opened 3 of the 4 windows i closed yesterday. I've just read about the limit of 3 windows reopened after closing, but now i can't restore the 4th one (it was the manin window with many tabs opened). In history i can't click on "Recently closed windows" and ctrl-shift-n doesn't work. I made a backup of my profile outside of the usual firefox folder. Is there something i can do to restore the 4th windows? I don't mind losing the other windows, but i need to recover the main one. I also tried this tool https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html but it doesn't seem to work with the files inside startupCache.

When I open a new tab, i would like the page to be in focus and not the urlbar. This is what i used to have in my mozilla.cfg: ``` // Auto focus new tab content try {

This started a few hours ago and I can't get it to stop. I've tried restarting Firefox, restarting my computer, reducing the tabs I have open. It basically freezes up and then every single tab has the loading icon.

It doesn't appear to be crashing and restarting because I don't see the windows disappear at any time.

I've tried looking online but I can't find anybody else encountering this.

I have it so it normally and always have opened tabs I am using whenever I reopen Firefox. But from today, it doesn't work. I checked in settings, it is on under Startup "Open previous windows and tabs", but it doesn't do so. But if I click CTRL+SHIFT+T it reopens all my windows tabs, but in another window. It's like Firefox thinks my main Startup is that blank site, where I left of last time, and doesn't update even that on opening all tabs, it opens a completely new window instead. Very weird behaviour. Any way I can fix this? It is really frustrating.

Default browser is Firefox. When it is not already open and I click a link in email or Messages it open Google.com. It used to go directly to email link address. I am using Macbook Pro. I just downloaded Firefox 117.0 Was there a change in setup or Firefox 117.0?

I opened up my browser and all my active tabs which I have had for months are gone. I tried to go to recently closed tabs in history and it doesn't allow me to open. All are not available. Help!!

if i have for example 4 tabs open i will also have 4 windows that all share the same tabs. i have tried using "about:config" and inputting "browser.tabs.allowTabDetach" and setting it to false and it doesnt help. what can i do to get opening a new tab to stay on the same window

I had a FireFox installed on my Windows 10that I had several important tabs open and now after installing a Manjaro linux, I've lost my access to the Windows. It happened around 6 months ago. Now I wanna reinstall a new Windows OS but wanna save my open tabs list somewhere so that I can restore them after reinstallation. Where are they strored/saved?

Hi, I recently tried to update my video driver, and afterward I was unable to login to Forge of Empires. They said I needed to restart Firefox, which I did. Unfortunately, I accidentally clicked on it twice, opening two instances, and then closed one without allowing either one to finish loading first. The one I didn't close only had one tab, so I went to Recently Closed Tabs to see about restoring my previous session, but it was empty. I also found all of the tabs in my Simple Tab Groups extension were gone so I couldn't restore it from there. My bookmarks still remain. I followed instructions I found to use the .jsonlz4 files, but they also only had the one tab. As suggested in another support page, I also searched for index.dat files, but found none relating to Firefox. Should I have any hope of recovery, or do I need to start over from scratch? I am using an outside application (1) that starts another application (2) on my computer. I already have the admin console for (2) open in Firefox. When I activate the application from (1), it sends a command to open up another tab with the exact same URL in Firefox. Its really more of a nuisance than anything, but I would like to make Firefox just defer to the existing tab since the URLs are the same. Not sure if this is possible, but it would be great if it was.

Every time I open Firefox, my open windows open, as they should, except the front tabs in as many as half of windows get stuck trying to open! The screen is blank, and you can see the spinning wheel in the tab window above the toolbar. Usually, if I click to stop it, then hit the refresh button, it will finally load the tab. Why can't they all just load, for while they don't, FF will still run up nearly all my RAM, maybe trying to load takes more juice. I don't know, but it's not supposed to be doing this. Opening tabs if a pretty fundamental function of any browser...

After the latest update (117.0 64-bit) I now do not see the '+' sign in the tab bar. I have 40 tabs open (please, no negativity - it's always worked for me), but if I close all of the tabs it reappears. Re-open the original 42 tabs and it's gone again. Close them and it reappears, etc. Now for the fun bit: starting from scratch with a new window - the '+' is there, but open 20 more tabs and it goes.

Please, I want my tab's x back no matter how many tabs are open. My monitor is very large so I can see. Looking for close tab after right click, is a problem for my eyes as I have to get up close to my monitor and then it takes too long to find the close tab. Just a few hours ago, the x disappeared, even on the tab I had open, and I didn't have as many tabs open as I usually do.

I did some looking and i found that you had changed it a long time ago but it only just affected me now (my (computer is not even a year old), even my laptop had the x on each tab (although I haven't used it in two weeks). I rely on the tab's x, especially the tab that I have open, no matter how many tabs, there is no x anymore at all, unless i have fewer than seven tabs open on my 27 monitor. I even changed the minimum tab size without result. No x on the tabs, no x on the tab I'm using. Thank you for your time spent reading this old woman's rant, i'm sorry for the bother. why was basic functionality removed. that dropdown menu is the most practical method of navigating my tabs, to say nothing of the quickest way to determine which one is making noise.

how do I get this basic feature back
