I've always loved Firefox because it's open source, privacy-focused, and developed by a nonprofit rather than a company whose business depends on advertising. Despite all of that, it seems like relatively few people use it compared to other browsers.

Why do you think Firefox hasn't become more popular? Is it mainly because of marketing, website compatibility, user habits, or something else? I'd be interested to hear the community's thoughts.

When I add sites for exceptions, why isn't this carried with my Firefox account and it shows up in every instance of Firefox when i am signed in? It is a nuisance to keep re-adding them everywhere. Also, when Firefox updates, why do I have to re=enter what I already done. It is a pain.

When my computer starts up and launches Firefox, the window is small and requires me to click on the full screen button. Before this it was opening at half-screen. Before that it was opening at full screen, which is preferred. I cannot get it to open in full screen despite all of the suggestions from this community. It's super-annoying. Why is this happening? What is the fix?

I am a novice and have not modified any code, but have added the extensions Duck Duck Go, Last Pass, Facebook Container, and Clear Cache. I have used these extensions for years and the problem is new. My problem must be a setting because I have not lifted the hood of Firefox or the OS and tinkered with it. Nor do I want to.

I download my share of media using BitTorrent with Pirate Bay. Just lately, every time I attempt to download something I get redirected to a page, https://ultimatesurferprotector.com/lp5.php, that tries to sell me a VPN and I can find no way to stop this or contact them. I am happy with the VPN I have and have no interest in purchasing another. Does anyone know how I can prevent this from happening? Thank you.

Since updating to 152.0.3 I am no longer receiving bills from my water company; electric company and natural gas company as well as the payment confirmation emails from these companies. I've checked my spam filters (I use earthlink.net) and blocked sender addresses and they are not on these lists, in fact they are in my contact/address book. I've called the utilities and they have confirmed that the email bill was sent to my email address

I am receiving all other emails that I know of. It seems to be website generated em.ails?

I am using Mac OS 12.7.6

My checking acct was hacked on GOOGLE EM yesterday- person charged a HP laptop to my checking account. Thankfully, my credit union alert phoned me to confirm this purchase and did not distribute the $1275 charge. I phoned them and they filed a fraud report and blocked my card. They advised I contact HP and 'CANCEL" this fraudulent charge. I phoned the number for HP on the email I received confirming my purchase and a second HP email saying my payment was declined. I was forwarded to their FRAUD dept, agent. Who took my name, phone and address. Then advised me that they cancelled the purchase and it had NOT been a completed bank transaction.

I am gettingHUNDREDS of spams daily. I used up the 5000 BLOCKS they allow over a year ago. SICK OF GOOGLE porn, fake US GOVT, and CASINO deposits as well as coming from all over the GLOBE into my email. I do send everone of the fake US GOVT email to Fraud report website I do report SPAM and also PHISHING on each one of these hundreds daily...soooooo tired of GOOGLE SHITMAIL! Please tell me safest email to use.

Also, 2nd request. Can you help me understand WHY even though I DO have my Firefox settings to save open tabs when I close or shut down, as well as to OPEN FIREFOX whenever I restart my computer...neither are working!

ALSO, 3rd request I have gmail set for email receivt onFirefox. and there are two areas to conduct a search FIREFOX in the center of the screen and of course the top line access to enter a search query...whenever I type in the FIREFOX Box to conduct a search it automatically goes to the upper entry box.

I am 79, a former educator, and have vg mental health still, YET, I HATE MORE AND MORE USING the computer and the cellphone, as there seems daily to be something that does not work and going to settings and reading each area to figure out what is wrong or why this happened is too difficult to read, to do, to recall withoug having to PRINT OUT EACH DIRECTION.

Yes, perhaps, I too have become a dinosaur and my mind is NOT calibrated to the CONSTANT UPDATES and changes demanded using new computer and phone technologies.

I thank GOD we do have people LIKE YOU TECHIES to try to help us GET IT RIGHT.

Firefox recently seems to be crashing randomly when I disconnect from VPN. At least I think it's crashing. This has maybe started a few weeks ago?

What happens is that when I disconnect from my VPN (ProtonVPN), I will randomly not be able to load any pages. If I go to any website, it will just get stuck loading forever. No timeout. I'm able to visit the browsers own pages like settings, some about: pages like about:performance, about:memory, etc.

Why I'm not sure if it's crashing is because the browser itself is not closing, I have to manually close the browser window. Once I close the window manually and wait a while, the crash reporter pops up. If I close the window manually then re-open it, theres a text prompt that shows up telling me Firefox is still open and if I want to close it to re-open Firefox.

I don't think it's the VPN's issue as when I disconnect from my VPN, applications other than Firefox work and have internet connectivity (a separate browser like Chrome, or discord, etc)

What I have tried:

  • new Firefox profile
  • Using Firefox Nightly
  • Various ProtonVPN settings (but I don't think its related to ProtonVPN)
  • Various Firefox network settings
  • Both Firefox and Firefox Nightly Open, when disconnecting VPN one would stop letting me reach sites but other wouldn't

I have the crash report details (from Firefox and Firefox Nightly) but unsure where best to upload or if it contains any sensitive data.

Maybe pasting this is fine? Both mention this at the last few lines of details: Winsock_LSP: Hyper-V RAW : 2 : 34 : 1 : 1 : 0x20026 : 0x8 : %SystemRoot%\system32\mswsock.dll :  : 1234191b-4bf7-4ca7-86e0-dfd7c32b5445

XPCOMSpinEventLoopStack: default: nsHttpConnectionMgr::Shutdown

And I also see this for maybe why the browser itself doesn't "crash" MozCrashReason: Shutdown hanging at step AppShutdownNetTeardown. Something is blocking the main-thread.

If it's okay to share the crash reports then I can add them.
