I expect that each page / tab in firefox is placed in its own thread.

However, I experience that when one page gets stuck .. javascript is caught in a wait loop .. that this affects other pages.

Is there something in FireFox that I can change to insure that each page is in it's own thread, and doesn't affect another page's performance?

Currently using FF v94.0.1 64-bit (I usually lag an update or two behind to ensure stability -- my highest priority -- and avoid surprises.)

1) I notice that unless there are a sufficient number of tabs opened across a browser window as stretched to a given width, thus triggering the left-right ("<" , ">") tab-scroll arrows to appear, the TAB MENU itself (aka "List all tabs" button, a "v" down-arrow on the far right) is not present. Nor is there an equivalent way to initiate a tab search within the main MENU BAR (FILE, EDIT, VIEW, etc.) that I could find. This restricts access to the SEARCH TABS feature.

This "automatically keep-it-tidy feature" is not really an issue when only a single browser window is open. However, I have many windows (on different topics of interest), each with many tabs.

I can switch to another browser window that has enough open tabs to have triggered the TAB MENU, then search from there. Or I can use the address bar "%" method).

(Actually, I'm pleasantly surprised that Firefox, running on my older PC, is stable with hundreds of tabs open as accumulated over many months. Clearly I should change my habits!)

2) On your support page titled "Search open tabs in Firefox" at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-open-tabs-firefox , it describes (via examples) using the "List all tabs"/TAB MENU button to access the "Search Tabs" feature. It also outlines using the address bar "%" method.

Unless I misread the article, what it does not make clear, is that the "Search Tabs" feature works the same as "% xyz" in the address bar; whereas using "%xyz" (note the missing space) yields different results (apparently the same as "xyz %"; but "xyz%" yields nothing). Nor does it explain the reason for the different results or the importance/desirability/weirdness of using one method over the other -- it simply presents the examples. I believe this help page could use some expansion/clarification.

3) I noticed that when performing "search tabs" via either the address bar (using "%") or via the TAB MENU, the results do not include any open tabs using "containers" (apparently the same as any open tabs within "private" windows).

I am increasingly using the "container" features by opening then permanently assigning many "sensitive" web sites to one of the container categories. The increased security is a nice idea.

However, with many browser windows open, each with many tabs, this inability to search for and conveniently find open tabs is increasingly frustrating and is nudging me back towards NOT using containers.

Can't some solution be found to maintain the privacy between tabs (and perhaps even private windows) while permitting a tab search to work more thoroughly?

In summary, I simply want to be able to find ALL occurrences of any partial string of searched-for text within ALL tabs in either their title OR address, normal AND container tabs, and preferably in normal AND private windows.

At present I see only a list of 12 results and no means of listing more. Sometimes my "known" open (normal/non-container) tab is not present in that short list (perhaps a preference/sort order is needed for tab titles vs. addresses).

Why not a "List more results", or a selector button to scroll-list "10, 20, 40, 100, ALL", or a button to open and continue with a listing of ALL matching results in a separate pop-up window, etc?

Thanks for all your good and hard work!

I have Firefox set up to restore my tabs automatically when I open the browser. Today, it did not, and I can't find a way to restore my previous session. Every suggestion I find online is not resolving the issue. There is no option to restore through the history tab, and no option to restore the session in Startup under General Settings.

Would appreciate the help!

Thanks,

Doug

I always have a lot of tabs open, and could very easily streamline my work if I could group them into a system like Collections for Firefox Android. Bookmarks and Pocket do not make for easy working, especially when needing to revert to previous sites, and consequently the numerous tabs left open cause confusion and slow down the PC. Is there a similar system on Firefox for Desktop so I can group tabs/webpages/sites within Collections? Bookmarks and Pocket do not work in the same way and are very clumsy and cumbersome in comparison.

Microsoft Edge has its own Collections system, and if Firefox has nothing compatible, I am seriously considering leaving Firefox and reverting back to Edge, although I would be risking my privacy and security which I value so highly with Firefox.

Any suggestions please?

Maybe also a security issue?

Hi, When my PC starts up, it automatically starts up Firefox with 2 recaptcha tabs. Nowhere have I set anything to startup Firefox (not in Start menu). Also, nowhere have I got a recaptcha-bookmark that I saved. How can I get rid of this or find out what's going on? Thank you, greetings from the Netherlands, Joop

I've had 4 different Firefox windows for months now or even more than a year. I use two monitors and I use lots of tabs. It has been easier for me until now to organize like that. I have 3 Firefox windows on my main monitor - one of them has like 10 tabs open. The other has 5. And the third one had maybe around 100. On the other monitor I have the last 4th Firefox window that has around 500 tabs open. I do this all the time where I get to a point in which I review them all in a day or two, filtrate thru the content I saved thru this method and after that reset the browser. So today I started this cleaning process with the 3rd window that had over 100 tabs. Was going great when suddenly I clicked the X button on the whole window and without any warning it instantly closed. I restarted the computer and nothing happened. All my information from over 100 tabs now gone forever and honestly this might sound funny to you but I'm literally having a panic attack right now having difficulties breathing. Before when it happened at times that I click the close button on these windows it always asked me a warning message if I want to close the window with these X tabs. No matter if the tabs are 10, 100 or 800. Always. No matter how many windows I have opened with different tabs in them. I immediately checked my settings and I see that "Confirm before closing multiple tabs" wasn't turned on which like NO WAY IN HELL did I go in the settings menu and turned that thing off. I haven't been in the settings menu since I installed firefox on this PC which was after I got my Windows OS like 2 years ago. And as I said I remember multiple times in these past months where I clicked the close button and it asks me if I want to close these X multiple tabs. So I dunno how that happened. Also I had the "Open previous windows and tabs" TURNED ON but that also didn't work apparently for some reason. So I'm not really sure what question I want to ask here, I guess I want some explanation why these things happened when clearly they shouldn't have and it wasn't my fault/mistake (from my point of view considering the facts). And also if there is any way to restore that window with the closed tabs.
