History and addons have synced succesfully, but despite trying various things, bookmarks have not. I am unable to access the previous machine on which they originate because of a catastrophic failure. Any help?

Like the title stated, I am using sync to basically transfer everything from one device to another. I do not need the sync function after this. So how do I disable sync without losing all the data?

I normally use Firefox desktop on my Linux computer.

Last week, I started using it on a public computer running Windows. I installed Firefox Portable and then logged/synced into my Firefox account on this Win computer. I noticed that in the Firefox Portable Windows “about:preferences” page, it says “Your browser is being managed by your organization”, which links to about:policies. In that “about:policies” page, it shows this https://i.imgur.com/JmD8nXg.png Policy Name: DisableAppUpdate Policy Value: true. Now I’m back on my Linux desktop computer and it also has this “managed by your organization” message in “about:preferences” and the same “about:policies” stuff. In other words, it appears that this policy was copied from the Windows public computer to my personal Linux computer. I don’t want that.

How can I undo this? And how can I block this sort of policy syncing?

Netflix no longer works on Firefox. After chatting with their help, I tried it on Google Chrome and it works just fine there. But I want to use Firefox. Can you help.

I have two Macs with Firefox, A and B. I don't understand the sync. I have different bookmarks on firefox in computer A and computer B. I want to transfer the bookmarks from A to B, not vice versa. What is the process and sequence of signing in/syncing so that the bookmarks go from A to B and not from B to A? Thank you for your help.

Firefox updated and now all my tabs, passwords, everything is gone. I logged in but nothing is saved in my account either. I fully have no idea what my passwords are, please help!

My school email is going to be disabled in a couple of months and I was wondering if there's a way to just change the email associated with my Firefox account, or if I'll have to make a new one and carry over my bookmarks/settings/addons etc. manually.

I have a desktop and laptop both with FF installed and synced and they ALWAYS load identical. Yesterday I set up my my new desktop in my office and I installed FF and when I logged onto my account my FF stayed the default color. This never happened before, and as I turned and looked at my old desktop I saw that it too now had the wrong theme. So I went into my kitchen were I have my laptop set up (it just upgraded itself to win 11 and I am using it as a training tool) the FF on it was no longer appearing correctly.

I have since spent 30 some hours uninstalling/reinstalling FF/ deleting my profile, remaking my profile, re-deleting my profile and making another new profile using a different email and when I install FF on ANY OTHER pc it will not load correctly, especially themes and add ons.

What the hell is causing this and how do I fix it??

On every PC I used my Revo Uninstaller Pro to uninstall FF including file remnants and then meticulously scrubbed repeatedly each PC for any leftover registry and file remnants, and then I used my file eraser program to wipe all the file slack.

If this is going to be an issue why have FF ? I spend enough time now keeping Edge disabled and dont want my fav primary browser to become a "High Maintenance" browser having to spend time EVERY TIME I TURN ON MY PC fixing this, repeatedly. Its like having to add water to your cooling system every time you start up your car before you can use it.

Any help would be enormously appreciated.

The trouble shooting information below is for the first install tonight after getting home and making the newest profile and it is seemingly staying correct, the next install on my laptop is incorrect, it has one deleted theme installed yet is "using" the default theme and the correct theme I picked is not even showing.

I'm curretnly trying to sign into a new device, but the new device keeps telling me that the password is incorrect. However, it's literally the account that I'm signed into right now, whose credentials I am able to see and verify.

I need to reset my password and I have all my firefox files from "appdata/roaming//monzilla/firefox" but will I be able to restore all my data from it after the reset or will the reset prevent anything? Will it work?

I want to be able to sync my data and know my password for this account.

I am aware that there is a guide for restoring profile data, but I dont know what happens after I reset the password and still try to restore the profile.

Hello! Since the most recent firefox update, my settings and extensions have been inaccessible to me due to my firefox account profile being "old." It has been working perfectly until this update. If I try to change my profile to my old one, it forces me to create a new one which does not include my saved addons and settings. I am able to usually manually move my bookmarks to the new profile via the files stored locally. I really need access to the settings and extensions, so it would be great if someone can help me to recover them. I tried to troubleshoot by finding my extensions local folder from my old profile, and I copied it to a new profile, but it didn't work. I am also wondering, if I do copy the extensions successfully, how can I also copy the settings preferences? Any solution is appreciated, thank you!

Today Firefox opened with my account disconnected. No passwords. I reset my account password but still no passwords. The logins file shows a .corrupt extension. I rename this and nothing happens. Every time I re-open FF (v 93.0) the .corrupt is added and I can't get to my passwords. I have hundreds.

I do not understand how firefox sync is supposed to work. I have a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is FF 85 on Linux Mint (I cannot get a later version due to some querk) The laptop is 99 on Windows 10 Both are signed in to sync but my bookmarks were scrambled so I signed out the laptop and cleared the profile, cleaned up the bookmarks in the desktop and to be safe I tried just syncing the tabs, not the bookmarks, by opening the fresh firefox on the laptop and signing in again. In the sidebar under my account icon I clicked "Synchronise now" and the open tabs from my desktop appeared in a list underneath, jumbled up. (I have 2 separate windows open on the desktop with different tabs in each, but this separation was not followed either, there didn’t seem to be any provision for syncing tabs in two separate windows)

But the row of tabs didn’t open, all I can do is open them one by one from the list on the right, this is a slow process as every time I click on a tab in the list the new page opens in the same single tab, not a new one, but the sidebar closes again.

Is this what’s supposed to happen? I was expecting the synced row of tabs to open automatically.

This feature would have been useful as my OS on the desktop, (Linux Mint) tends to crash and to have the on the laptop would be a good backup.

Incidentally the other way I try to back up the lost tabs is to select them all and bookmark them to a new folder which I call “backup” but it seems this doesn’t necessarily duplicate them, which I would prefer, so any of the open tabs that were previously bookmarked risk being removed from the original bookmarked folder, without my noticing, and I am therefore reluctant to delete the backup folder without checking that it doesn’t contain the only bookmark of a page.

When I came back to syncing the bookmarks, how do I avoid them getting scrambled again?

Hello, I am French but I try to write in English... When I launch Firefox, I know it will ask for my main password. This is what I need, me for I activated "Sync" (to synchronize my profile on PC and Android). My problem is not "how to prevent Firefox to ask for my main password" (many people ask for that on the net). It is "how to prevent Firefox to wait about 30 seconds before asking for my main password".

I did read only one thread about the trouble I encounter each time I launch Firefox but I gess many people experiment the same thing. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1312988 (you can see the source is a very good one :-) ) I entirely agree with the author, who wrote :

"The delay in the master password prompt is up to 20 seconds and is so annoying, it just gets in the way when you are trying to work."

So, you launch Firefox, you look for one of your bookmarks to click on it but then, Firefox stops your action and a window asks your password. Worse : you are typing words in the adress bar and after some seconds you discover that you were typing the last words in the password pop-up window. Awfull ! You can then 1/ grumble and type your password 2/ grumble an press the Escape key

I use sometimes Seamonkey, that asks for the main password within the second you click its shortcut on Windows desktop. An excellent solution ! But after that, I notice that Seamonkey does not have a Sync function (and Firefox asks for the main password 20 or 30 seconds after opening only if Sync is activated).

To sum up, it would be great if Mozilla / Sync could remove the delay before asking for the main password, even if it has to ask for it right after clicking on the desktop shortcut. Thanks for any advice, Michel

I have tried this several times over a few years, and have never got it to work I know it must be something I am doing wrong because if it was a glitch or bug, it would have been fixed by now. Usually I need to do this if I need to reinstall the OS, (Windows and Linux), or a new pc, the usual, but this time I had a major crash, so I'm starting over.

Anyway I have signed in on my pc to my FF account, and went through the menu to turn on sync, and I get to the page where is says, "when ready click next to display the QR code". I get my android out, open FF, sign in, click the "Scan" button, the FF scanner opens,, I open the QR code on the pc, (I have also went to the website to get a QR code). Then either way I scan the code, and get an errror msg "Must scan from inside FF". I am scanning from inside FF, with the FF QR scanner.

I don't uinderstand how of the 20 or more times I have tried to do this, I can't get it to work. I don't understand how I screw up every times, over a few years. But I also know as I said, if it was a bug MOzilla would have fixed it by now. Usually I give up on that and just log into both the pc and the phone, close both browsers and reopen them and it will go ahead and sync.

But not this time, I am unable to get it to sync for anything. I've been working on this for 3 days now, and at this point I'm confused, I don't remember what I have and have not done. Let me add, and I don't know if this will make a difference, I don't think so, but what do I know? Originally this all started, when I had to reset my password. I tried for 4 days there to get a recovery code to work. (The following is just to describe what I've done, and is not a second question) I had one downloaded, and saved on my pc. But no matter what route I took to go through the reset process, exactly as described in the help file, I never could get a place to enter the code. I read every article I could about it, and finally it seemed easier to just reset the password and resync than try to get the code to work.

Which is why I am sitting here, desperatly needing to sync my data, but unable to. If anyone can tell me what I need to do I will appreciate it. If you need any more information, just let me know.

I am trying to transfer my bookmarks, open tabs and passwords etc. from my old laptop to my new one. It appears I have to do this with Firefox Sync under the preferences menu. However when I try to connect a new device, I am told to open the code scanner on my Firefox App, which sounds like I have to use a mobile? How do I scan the QR code using my new laptop?

I decided to make a fresh windows install, and when i installed firefox as allways i logged in.

Normally when i have logged in on a fresh installation of firefox it startes with the sync and getting all my old booksmarks, add-ons, passwords etc. but this time i didn't.

I thought that was weird but didn't pay mind to it, i thought i might have needed some time to sync. After 4 hours nothing has happended yet.

I have to many things i would like to recover... this have never been an issue before? Do anyone have some tips?
