I am running Windows 11 23H2, upgraded from Windows 10. I have just done a check with Steve Gibson's "ShieldsUp!!" and the browser header is stated as follows:-

Connection: keep-alive Content-Length: 31 Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/avif,image/webp,image/png,image/svg+xml,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-GB,en;q=0.5 Cookie: ppag=zuhygut2gvnnw; pcss=zuhygut2gvnnw; pico=dbfq5ltar45ex; tpag=zuhygut2gvnnw; tcss=zuhygut2gvnnw; tico=dbfq5ltar45ex Host: www.grc.com Referer: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0 Origin: https://www.grc.com DNT: 1 Upgrade-Insecure-Requests: 1 Sec-Fetch-Dest: document Sec-Fetch-Mode: navigate Sec-Fetch-Site: same-origin Sec-Fetch-User: ?1 Sec-GPC: 1 Priority: u=0, i FirstParty: https://www.grc.com ThirdParty: https://www.grctech.com Secure: https://www.grc.com Nonsecure: http://www.grc.com Session: ac2uanrdjz2e

Notice that the user agent line identifies the OS as (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:128.0) Isn't this a bit odd? Is this a bug in Firefox?

Shouldn't the user agent information refer to Windows NT 11.0?

This installation of Windows 11 otherwise works very well.

What happened? Very odd bug here. I have a UAD Apollo Audio interface. My mac audio is routed to Apolos virtual 1-2 Channels. You can see the Audio Midi settings in the uploaded image.

Using Twitch there are some streams that play out of the wrong channels. For instance on one stream (https://www.twitch.tv/datto) the audio plays out of only the left side UAD Apollo Mon-L (the left channel of Apollos monitoring channel which is not virtual channel 1-2 my current Mac routing, but Monitor 1 only. Not even Monitor channel 2).

On other stream (https://www.twitch.tv/aztecross) it works correctly. I've tested on other browser including ARC and there was no issue. I've ran the troubleshooting mode and the issue is still present. I even changed my UAD Apollos to the normal Mon L-R channels and the issue is still present.

I'm wondering if Firefox has some issue with multichannel audio interfaces or audio interfaces in general?

I attached 2 images of my UAD console. You can see in the first image that on the MAC Channel there is no audio coming through while watching the Datto twitch stream. But you can see on the L monitor (all the way to the right) there is audio.

On the second image is a Aztecross twitch stream and audio is passing through the MAC channel correctly.

Any idea what is happening here?

Reproducible? I have checked that this issue is reproduced on Firefox, Firefox Nightly, Zen Browser.

What platform are you seeing the problem on? macOS - aarch64

When I highlight a word while browsing, and right-click that, I get the option to search with Google, the search engine it is configured for. However I often would rather go directly to Wikipedia. I do NOT want to make that the default for search, but I would find having another line below "Search Google for " that offers "Search Wikipedia for ". Such an option would save me considerable work. Is there such an option? If so I could not find it. (If not, dare I suggest it as an enhancement?)

Thanks!

I'm trying to use a service worker to add some additional headers to image and video requests but on Firefox the fetch event is only being invoked for the images and not the videos. On Chrome it is called for both.

I cannot find any documentation that says Firefox does not support service workers for video but this appears to be the case. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

sw.js 'use strict';

self.addEventListener("install", (event) => {

 // Force the newly installed service worker to replace any earlier version
 self.skipWaiting();

});

self.addEventListener("activate", (event) => {

 // Activate the service worker immediately in all clients
 event.waitUntil(self.clients.claim());

});

self.addEventListener('fetch', (event) => {

 console.log(`SW.js: ${event.request.url}`);
 const updatedHeaders = new Headers(event.request.headers);
 //updatedHeaders.set('Accept', '*');
 // Create a new request object with the updated headers
 const updatedRequest = new Request(event.request, {
   headers: updatedHeaders
 });
 event.respondWith(fetch(updatedRequest));

});

This is happening on my old Win 10 machine as well as on a brand new install on a new Win 11 machine.

I use a programme JOSM / TM4 from HOTOSM that creates digital maps.

TM 4 is a programme in which area is divided into pieces (tasks) where a task can be selected by participants (mappers). This task is assigned to JOSM. Within this programme, a ‘changeset’ can be called for processing in JOSM.

Message from JOSM ‘remote control has been asked to import data from the following URSL ( This is opened within JOSM https://www.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/changeset/158340818/download (the number at the end can change) Normal situation is that this happens 1 time. Now the situation is, when in the browser the changeset is still open this is spontaneously sent to JOSM. And that several times, each time a page I visited earlier. Very annoying. The JOSM helpdesk gives this message. Quote:

Since a week or so I see this behaviour. I use Firefox internet explorer and have often a OSMcha and changesets open. The Data layers which opens are always the same as the changesets I have opened. No idea if there is an interference with that. Thanks for looking into this comment:2 by stoecker, 4 days ago

Sounds like a "background load" to me. The Web browser tries loading the URL in background and each time you get a new layer. Closing the TABS in the browser may help or if possible disabling background fetches for the localhost URLs? comment:3 by taylor.smock, 4 days ago Owner: changed from team to Frans.schutz@… Status: new → needinfo

I agree with stoecker.

As a first step, I would turn off/disable Remote Control. If this fixes the issue, then you have a poorly behaving website that is continually calling JOSM remote control.

See wiki:Help/Preferences/RemoteControl. follow-up: 5 comment:4 by anonymous, 3 days ago

Hello I disabled the remote control, but than I have no access to JOSM when I want to open a task in TM4

Till last week, Firefox did not respond as what I now see.

I try to close open OSMcha and changesets to see if this solve the issue Bestregards in reply to: 4 comment:5 by taylor.smock, 3 days ago

Replying to anonymous:

   I disabled the remote control, but than I have no access to JOSM when I want to open a task in TM4

That was expected. The question is, did disabling remote control fix the issue. If so, then something is calling JOSM remote control in a loop, and it is not a bug in JOSM.

   I try to close open OSMcha and changesets to see if this solve the issue

Once you figure out what website is the problem, I would highly recommend filing a ticket with them. Absent that, put the website (preferably with the full URL -- most browsers let reopen the last closed tab) in this ticket and I'll look into the sites bug report procedure.

I tried looking for the answer but I keep finding questions about whether to open links in new tabs or new windows, and questions regarding whether to open a specific home page or blank page in a new window.

I would like Firefox not to open any window at all when I open it. I might go to Recent websites, or open my History to find a page I've visited last week. Of course if I press cmd-T or cmd-N, that's when I want a new window to open.

When I activate Firefox from another application and I have no windows open, I wouldn't like any new windows to open either.

Is this an option? I'm on Mac OS, Firefox 131.0.3.
