Something changed very recently, probably that new update. There are passwords and all manner of info I can't find....

I am missing MANY bookmarks I had in Firefox. Where did they go?

Can I somehow restore the previous version if necessary to recover them?

1. impossible to open bookmarks. nothing happens

2. all the shortcuts on my home page have disappeared while they are still chosen in preferences and it is not possible to add new ones. Again nothing happens when trying.

I am mainly concern about the possible loss of the links of the bookmarks. I already experienced a total loss of the history and I fear to go through something like that again.

Please solve this problem or help me if I can do it myself. I did a restart and a refresh but no change. Thank you

Since the update to Firefox 146.0.1. on December 20th 2025, I cannot save any new bookmarks or organize the existing ones. I used CCleaner 7 but uninstalled it because there seemed to be a problem. But that hasn't changed anything for me. When I checked the integrity of Places Database, this is what I got:

I've been using custom icons for all of my 36 shotcuts on Firefox start page. Today I opened Firefox and my icons are gone, Firefox slowy created its own ones and now I can't refresh them to bring back my own, despite there are my links pasted into entry. It's really time consuming to bring back old icons one by one, I have to upload each of them again to get new links, because somehow Firefox sees old links being in use and there's no way to refresh preview of them. Please give me faster method to bring back my old setting, I really hate changes so much!

My iMAC desktop computer crashed yesterday and ultimately I ended up having to go into recovery mode, erase the hard drive to reinstall the OS and then restore the applications and files from TimeMachine using Migration Assistant. All of that worked fine, but Firefox was still hanging up, so I deleted it and downloaded the most recent version. That of course wiped out all of my bookmarks. I used Time Machine to restore the "bookmarksbackup" folder as shown in the image below. That did not help, at least in terms of restoring my bookmarks to Firefox. I noticed that a second profile had been created, so I copied the same list of files to the bookmarksbackup folder under that profile. Still no help. It occurred to me that perhaps there is another place where the current active bookmark file should live, but if that is the case, I can't figure out where that might be. I'm quite stuck and really need access to my bookmarks. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

PS: I've since run a thorough virus scan using Microsoft Defender and checked disk integrity using DiskUtility.

Got a new MAC Trying to delete old bookmarks but no go. The old bookmarks used to be in "Other bookmarks" but now they only show up in "All bookmarks" and the Star will not let me activate the Delete Bookmark button

After the Windows has just updated, the "Bookmarks" ribbon on top of the screen is unavailable. What can I do to get it back. The directions have just confused me further.

After uninstall and reinstall my Firefox i can't restore my bookmark. I used (CTRL+shift+b) and restore my file "JSONLZ4". But i have an error as "Unable to process the backup file". I read your forum and test many things but nothing. I also used the https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/bookbackreader.html,but it does not work? It prompts:failed JSON parsing: SyntaxError: Unexpected end of JSON input. I really need my bookmarks! How can I restore them?

I'll try to make this short. Old laptop crashed and burned, rebuilt new laptop, brought over places.sqlite files and all my bookmarks are there however I can't add to them, delete any of them, and on occasion they disappear and I have to restore the places.sqlite files just to get them back. HELP! This browser is driving me nuts!

After re-installing Firefox, my Bookmarks are gone. I could reinstall them as I go along, but my Folders (used to organize) are also gone. Worse: I cannot seem to figure out how to re-create folders or move those Bookmarks I have. Any suggestions.

I had a problem therefore I had to reinstall Firefox. When I reinstalled I had to login again and I did that with my usual Mail Address that I used for Firefox since years! But something was off... No Bookmarks, no backups nothing! I pressed sync to get the data because it didnt fetch it automatically but nothing happened either. I logged out and somehow after googling I found a way to login with google! (The option wasnt available anymore in the browser options WTF?! ) logged in and saw my profile picture etc I noticed this was my real account right there! Logged in and landed (at leat so it seemed in that new account that I described before which wasnt my real account, I synced nothing happened, all is fcked!) I lost my account so it seems with bookmarks that I gathered for years! ALL LOST.. Iam mad, frustraded, sad... and there doesnt seem to be any backup on my harddrive at least and my firefox account has been overwritten... Should I´ve been swapped earlier to google Chrome?! I really liked Firefox over these years... Iam so sad right now

Yesterday I clicked the download button "Download the latest version of Firefox", and restarted my laptop. After this my bookmarks disappeared and my only method to retrieve them was to restore my system back to an earlier time period. Now, I'm offered that same download but NO THANK YOU until I know I'll still have my data.

While trying to add my existing bookmarks (from previous computer) I get message - SSL_ERROR_INTERNAL_ERROR_ALERT

Please tell me what to do. I cannot find any reference to this message.

I have used Mozilla and Firefox for over 20 years now and thoroughly enjoyed it - but have never had and problems of this nature.

I received a virus message alert that popped up on my screen. I then hit control alt delete and shut down Firefox, when I reopening it, my bookmarks were gone and not even able to add new bookmarks. An error message stating something like, another program is using the file keeps appearing. I'm able to log into a different computer and my bookmarks are there.

I feel this can only be corrected by an adjustment to the version, am on 122.0.1 as the latest update. My O/S Linux Mint Mate v20.0.3. Have NOT been to any schooling or even just a class for any training, all done as my curiosity has driven me to learn on my own, Self-taught and have been working with CPU`s for over 35 years, I am 84...

Getting to this point has been a rather long drawn-out process that has been a bit confusing hope this info is acceptable.
