I just hit a bug in Firefox that was a real time eater for me.

Firefox was automatically redirecting to https for a website even when I typed in the full url http://192.168.138.210:80. It would always redirect even if there was no server listening at port 80! Even, if I added query parameters like ?q=123456, it still did it.

I had set up the web server to listen on port 80 at 192.168.138.210 and I could never get firefox to load the http page. I created a simple node http server and the same issue occurred. I finally realized that it was the browser was doing the https redirect. I disabled all extensions and it still occurred. I tried `Private Window` and the issue went away. Chrome was fine. I also tested `wget` and it was fine.

Once I realized the Firefox profile was the issue, I then cleared the cache in the browser and presto, problem went away.

I cannot repeat this error in Firefox so a Bug report is probably not warranted. In hindsight, I should have made a copy of the profile :(

Hope this information helps someone else avoid the pain of this and also a simple warning to those testing new web servers, don't assume any complex web browser is doing the right thing, use simple tools like wget or netcat to see whats going on at the lowest possible level before passing blame.

Here are a couple of goto *nix tests I have used:

Netcat trick to send a request to http://192.168.138.210:80/ % printf "GET / HTTP/1.0\r\n\r\n" | nc 192.168.138.210 80

Handy wget script that gives all the necessities of more complex calls like https for troubleshooting certificate resolution etc.: % curl -v -I --insecure https://google.com 2>&1 | egrep -v '^> |^< |^{|^}|^* T|^* AL|^ 0'

Problem: I need to run different browsersessions with multiple tabs. I sort the websites in multiple browser windows about topics which i need for different tasks. So far no problem. I also managed, that when i close Firefox it will restart that different sessions. But - there is no need to have all them sessions open at the same time, which also costs a lot of RAM and CPU power.

My idea was to have different desktop shortcuts to start them different sessions only when i need them.

Up to now this is not common. But it seems to become a common need. A lot people work with lot's of tabs at the same time and struggle with their resources. As admin i can see that very often.

I assume, that it is possible to handle that with a script. But then i would have to change the script with every change of a single url.

Does anyone have a simple and smart solution?

Thank you all in advance and happy new year for everybody! :-)

I have been trying some Software that the PC user can use, to change a data file so that Firefox will show only the text that the data file contains. The data files that I have been working with are .doc, .docx, and .rtl(?) and have even tried .html. But so far I haven't found a format that seems to work with Firefox. Has any body any ideas? This area that I'm working in is rather new to me, and for that reason I seem to keep going around in circles.

Fist I would like to participate with Firefox more - I want to become more a part of the community - and add in my consultant expertise Next I would like to suggest several things, but today just one - your Updates

I cannot take this anymore. Every couple weeks there is some update, and it is unacceptable - it disrupts my life. I do not want to restart my computer, I have dozens of documents and files open that I am working on, and this interferes with my daily routines, and as a top activist in your circle u are not yet aware of... its KIND OF important!

Straight up a vast majority of these updates should be released in 'packs' around the start of the month, and then I will not mind, but every couple weeks and the icon to download pops up continuously and then restarts my computer by force - that is MSN bully actions - like come on team... it is annoying as hell!

It's gotta change as it is even more annoying than bookmarks being saved on my home page in the top spots - blank is better than something that is not needed there - the Firefox browser home is a VERY important organizational tool for your members AND is your 'face' to the world that u are not using even at par to help your success.

As for other suggestions I would like to help in the future. Especially when it comes to you guys asking for with emails to get operational capital - I want to help - so I have sent letters in response and received no answers! If the Capitalist Elite will collapse the economy to repurchase everything back at half price, during that time many entities that receive public funding will no longer survive, as the public will be in bread lines.

The time to evolve your community has arrived... contact me for the next levels...

There's a site I use frequently that downloads .htm files to my computer every time I open it in a new window. The site does not have a settings page to turn this feature off. It also functions exactly the same once the file is deleted, and it only recently started doing this. I trust that the files are not malicious, but I also find it annoying to manually delete them every single time.

Is there a way within Firefox to block specific sites from downloading content?

Hi,

is there a way to stop a website to automatically forcefully boot me to their main page after like 1sec?

In my case its this Link: https://multiversus.bugs.wbgames.com/bug/MVS-1-3162 It straight up throws me back to the original website after being able to see it for probably less than a second.

Thanks in advance!

So I've been doing a lot of distro-hopping over the last couple of years and every install has an instance of firefox + assorted info in the "Connected Services" list. I can log out of them individually, but this is going to take a daft amount of time. I really do mean "a lot of distrohopping". There must be at least 300 entries, probably more. Can I 'log out of all devices' and then back in to clear the list? The alternative would seem to be to export everything, then make a new account and import it back.

As an aside, in the course of chasing this feature down I discovered that it's no longer possible to remove old devices from your Google account.

Thanks I've been a firefox user since the first Beta of the then named Mozilla Sunbird. Always loved it. Always recommended it to anyone who would stand still long enough to listen, as the saying goes.
