I was suddenly having problems viewing YouTube videos (black screen) and Firefox support suggested refreshing Firefox (version 42), which I did. What a mistake. None of my add-ons, bookmarks, passwords, etc migrated. So I followed instructions how to copy paste those files from my previous profile in to the new one via ?, troubleshoot, view profile. The problem is, the current profile shows all the files associated with my passwords (key?db and logins.json) are there, but when I go to "options>privacy>passwords" NONE of them appear. I had the profile from the day before I refreshed, so I'm sure that's the most up-to-date....SO, I copied that logins.json file and pasted it into the current profile, and still NO PASSWORDS. I figured out how recover all my bookmarks, but I NEED my passwords. Can anybody help? I still can't figure out why Youtube videos suddenly won't play, when they did last week! Of COURSE, I have the latest version of Adobe Flash installed: been there done that. I'm at my wits end as I've been at Firefox support pages for 2 days straight and nothing has worked that's been suggested.

I have created a couple of small pages that i have embedded into another web site. The embedded pages wont display on that site in FireFox but works on Chrome with no problem. How can I fix this so others on FireFox can view these embedded pages? I didn't know it couldn't be displayed until tonight and I have been looking for a fix since I was told. Some may see a solid white box and others see a grey box with a plugin is needed to view this content. However, if I view the pages I created on the server they work fine in FireFox. Just not when embedded into another web site. I'm stumped...

I have 2 computers that are both newly (and fully) formatted. Both are running win7 64bit with the latest firefox, and on the first one i have set up the entire Firefox with all the bookmarks and addons and settings.
When i log into sync on my 2nd computer it does sync the addons and the bookmarks - but none of the settings/preferences. I did make sure that the preferences are checked in the Sync settings, and i have tried the sync now button. I also tried logging out of sync and back into it, restarting my PC, resetting firefox to default and even deleting all firefox profiles and settings files. I have cookies allowed/enabled in case that is relevant, and firefox is updated to the latest version.
Can anyone tell me how do i make firefox sync the preferences? It is the most important part of the "sync" feature for me, and it is not working :(

Suddenly my images on all websites disappeared. I had backed up my settings with MozBackup 1.5.1 . The first time I restored with the latest backup file the problem came back immediately with images gone. I went to another backup created a few days prior and the problem went away temporarily. As I was surfing the images disappeared again. I have restored again and the images are back. My tech people at HP SmartFriends suggested I post the question to Mozilla support...

FF 42.0 / Windows 7 64-bit
I have a problem with installing any extension that requires browser restart (for example Web Developer Toolbar). Addons that do not require browser restart (like firebug, adblock plus) are installed with no issues. When I go to about:addons search for addon, click install, it gets installed with no error messages but after I restart the browser it's simply not installed. By the way this problem has every windows workstation I checked in my company (Thomson-Reuters, Gdynia) and there is always the same problem even after fresh FF installation so it's not related to my specific laptop. I checked with local IT but they have no idea what the reason of that problem could be. This is not officially supported browser so it's not their duty to troubleshoot it. They just checked if the problem reoccurs when addon is installed with antivirus disabled and yes - with disabled antivirus software the problem still exists. I checked https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/unable-install-add-ons-extensions-or-themes but none of the cases from above-mentioned KBs seem to be relevant to my problem. I'm not power Firefox user so I would like kindly ask for advice how the problem could be troubleshooted: -are there any specific settings in about:config I should look into? -are there any certificates that could have been replaced on a corporate machine and are required for addon installation? -any specific entries in configuration files that I should check before and after the browser restart? -anything else..

When I click the add-on button Firefox opens on a blank page with my add-on links on the left hand side. It opens selecting 'get add-ons' and all that shows is a box saying 'loading' and the rotating icon. They never load. Going down the links the next is 'extensions' resulting in a blank page and nothing else. Next is appearance where it show's a default and 3 other inactive links. Finally plugins where nothing seems wrong. All there as I remember. Some of my extensions seem to be working properly but others don;t How can I access these extensions and how do I get onto the add-on page?

When - Now IF I update to 4.3 How can I overide your decision to tell me what to do Messrs free web? I appreciate Mozilla is being protective, but that is exactly how the 'others' have invaded our privacy.
I would rather be told how to protect myself, and have enough information to assess the risk.
The extensions I want to keep working are little simple helpful tools that the developers don't have the time or resouces to get your approval. In fact they might not even be active developers any more...
I have been using some of them for years. I have also used and loved Firefox for years and don't want to change to something else. I can use them but I don't like them.
Now I daren't update. I don't want to update to 4.3 because it says in the help area that I will no longer have the choice to keep using them. ( the unsigned plugins/extensions) I refer to this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-signing-in-firefox?as=u&utm_source=inproduct
Oh Dear - what-am-I-to-do?
Can anyone confirm that I will indeed be unable to allow unsigned addons?
Oh and the 'educated guesses' about my system are correct but incomplete, in that it doesn't show that several of those plugins are have been disabled for a long time and have no way of uninstalling them - odd really. Nor does it list the offending extensions of which I speak.
I jusr read this over and it sounds a bit fierce - I don't mean to be rude. I have been trying to find out how to overcome this ever since I first read about it AGES ago. Didn't want to bother anyone. But it occurred to me that others might have the same concerns.
Thanks for reading this far, Would be great if I'm wrong about this...

Until this week I easily handled my cookie preferences by NOT checking the "except cookies from sites" option. I then made exceptions to this default with the exceptions tab or through a cookie manager add-on. Since the last recent Firefox update, this no longer works. Nothing in cookie exceptions does anything. In addition to not letting me allow cookies, it will also not let me block cookies when I do check the "except cookies from sites" option. The Cookie Exceptions Do Nothing. I will appreciate any real help.

I use FlashPlayer to watch videos on YouTube. To get rid of the notification "Press Esc To Exit Full Screen Mode," I went to about:config and changed the value of "full-screen-api.approval-required" to false. It worked until I restarted Firefox and now it doesn't.
As a matter of fact, every time I restart Firefox, it does a lot of things against my Preferences, too. It signs me out of YouTube and every other site even though I have the box checked to NOT do that.
Any real answers or am I deleting Firefox permanently and going back to Safari?

In C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles there is one profile (qanl58lx.default) and my extensions is in the profile folder, but in Firefox options/extensions there are none. This has been going on for some time, but suddently 2 days ago a window for every extension showed up and asked for updating, which was done, and now extensions were shown inOptions/extensoins. But today they are all gone again. I have scanned for malware and there are none.

Every day around 9:30 PM, browsing the web becomes impossible. nearly every site I visit brings up a This Connection Is Untrusted page. I have tried using different browsers and Different Devices. Even my 3DS doesn't work. This has lead me to believe that the problem is either with the modem or my service provider. I checked the certificate of Google via chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul, and it read ISSUED TO Common Name (CN) security.frontier.com Organization (O) security.frontier.com and when I checked it now, it reads ISSUED TO Common Name (CN) www.google.com Organization (O) Google Inc I don't know what fixes this problem since the problem stops at different times. It started around when I installed AVG, so I tried uninstalling it, but the problem didn't stop. While I'm fairly certain the problem isn't related to Firefox, this is one of the sites that I am able to visit when this problem occurs. I have tried manually adding the exception so I could bypass the Untrusted Connection page, but the page never loads and the next time it happens, the page is there again anyway.

01.12.15 Firefox freezing mostly when utilizing bookmark features
Firfox freezing seems to be a widespread issue with firefox, since looong time without a real solution. Simply searching for "freeze": among so many others, also with Thunderbird(wher I never ever noticed any frezzes, so far: https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1082233 I "solved", no, I hide it by entering a system varibale to suppress message (like blind the warning lamp an th alarm panel, or what)
https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1073963 https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1068669 https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1079575 https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1090889 https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1086151 https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1072930 https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1096059 https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1094223 "Large Cache wit FF"? BTW, This is another example whot to "solve" an issue by "disable this and disable that" Hey guys, are you doing this when you buy your car? disable the breaks, when the make noise? Or disable a warning light? For me, that is not a "solution". Not even a workaround!
I personally have very rarely noted any freezes/crashes related to videos/flash sites with my pc
After trying all mentionend workarounds, even crating a new user profile in WIN 81, I face Freeze-issues - not each time, but randomly - when - click into FF window after PC sleep mode - click on bookmark symbol(star) to set a bm - click on tab to "add bookmarks for all tabs.." - switching between FF windows.
I use bm feature quite extensively, I read several news pages one by one, each time I open it in a new window and open interesting links in new tabs, at the end I save all tabs to bookmarks [ newspaper_date ] and finally delete history/all cookies.
I am running adblockplus, noscript and ghostery-add on, thus avoiding any flash advertisement or movie to be downloaded/started automatically
I rarely see any videos, so far I have not found any relation between looking some videos and a freeze.
As mentioned an other question, I will observe this issue by building a new bookmark database.

Starting a few days ago, about 75% of the time I open my browser, the option to restore the previous session is there but history is not. I have my preferences set to erase all history upon closing the browser. It never did this before. However, it is inconsistent. Sometimes, when I click on it, my start page reloads and "restore previous session" disappears. Other times, my previous tabs open up if I click on it. If I close the browser and open it two to four times, "restore previous session" finally disappears. I have my preferences set to erase everything when I close Firefox but a few times, not only was “restore previous session” available but my history was not erased. I have checked those preferences repeatedly.
The day this started, I did extensive web searches to find a solution. I entered about:config and set the crash recovery to False, as recommended (browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash). Obviously, this did not solve the problem. Earlier today, I went to Show Folder in Troubleshooting and deleted two prefs.js files that Mozilla recommended to get rid of when preferences won't stick. After I did this, I opened my browser on about four occasions and "restore previous session" did not appear. I thought I had fixed the problem. Nope. Just now, I had a terrible shock. "Restore previous session" was there again and when I clicked on it, it loaded my Gmail Inbox, which I had definitely signed out of earlier. I wasn't even prompted to log in.
I can understand it giving me the login page for Gmail but to open up my Inbox is horrifying! I do three malware and virus scans on my PC every day. I recently did a special scan that said my PC was not vulnerable to being hacked and had good security.
I just checked that Show Folder and there is a new file that was not there four hours ago: prefs.js. The other two that I deleted earlier today are still in my Recycle Bin so I could restore them. They are: prefs-1.js and prefs.js I have not deleted any more prefs.js files. The Mozilla help page said Firefox might create a new prefs.js file if it needs it. So why tell us to delete it to stop this annoying problem?
After I deleted the prefs.js files, I went into Privacy to make sure my settings were okay. As I said, I had no problem the first three or four times I opened the browser after both deleting the prefs.js files and checking my preferences. This new issue with it opening my Gmail Inbox happened just now. By the way, a while back, I deleted (but still have it in the Recycle Bin) a user.js file to stop web addresses from remaining in the Location bar after closing my browser. If this were the problem, I would have had this issue a long time ago, not in the last few days.
I refreshed Firefox, reset my preferences, and this did not fix the problem. I made sure the browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash was still set to False. I also set my privacy level from 0 to 2 with about:config (browser.sessionstore.privacy_level). I lost the link of where I read to do this.
I am absolutely fed up with this. Why doesn’t Firefox just make it simple and give us the option of shutting off the restore feature if we want to? Obviously, if you set it to Private Browsing, this prevents the restore previous session option from appearing. However, it means that you have no history while browsing and this is not something I want. I have to have my history as I refer to it all the time. The only thing I can think of to prevent anyone from seeing my browsing and history but to have my history available as I’m browsing is to clear everything but cookies under Clear Recent History. Ridiculous!
Just now, I checked and the crash configuration was back to True. I set it to False again. It seems, all of a sudden, I can’t get any settings to take hold in Firefox.

The problem occurs while loading Dropbox Home folder.
I restarted Firefox in Safe Mode and everything worked fine.
I am trying to find out which add-on is causing the problem. After I disabled all of them and restarted the program the problem occurred again.
How do I fix this?
PS. With "freeze" I mean that it doesn't respond for a while. After 10 secs it's fine again.
