In Firefox settings, Firefox new tab, and in these mozilla forums, my add-ons are disabled. Specifically Vimium, and I get this message when hovering over the Vimium icon: "Vimium is not running on this page.

Your browser does not run web extensions like Vimium on certain pages, usually for security reasons.

Unless your browser's developers change their policy, then unfortunately it is not possible to make Vimium (or any other web extension, for that matter) work on this page."

How can I enable this, and possibly all normally active add-ons in these pages?

When I want to add a site to my bookmarks, I select the website address and carry to more bookmarks toolbar icon that looks like this: >> and put it wherever I want.

I used this earlier today but somehow I can't use it now. I can select the site, carry to more bookmarks icon (>>), more bookmark toolbar appears but I when I try to carry the website down, it immediately disappears.

I hope I have explained it well. Thanks.

The latest update of firefox gives a blank top half of the page on every page - including about:addons. Sometimes this blank bit is clickable and sometimes it is not. When opened in safe mode it does not give a blank top half and can be used. This behaviour occurs even when there are no addons installed. It occurs despite reinstallation and restarting.

Any help would be blessed.

Is there a way to save a FF URL as a file in linux, from within FF?

I would like to save URLs to the file system as actionable files. Expecting to launch the default browser by double-clicking that file or opening a new tab if running, although I can see where that might get weird and launch only the file's source browser and not the default browser; not a problem as yet.

Note that I know this is not <Save Page As…/Web Page, complete> that saves the entire page content in a relative directory, or <Save Page As…/Web Page, HTML only> that saves page code to a file system link but without content. Also, not interested in FF internal solutions related to bookmarks, pocket, or favorites. FF is busy enough and my goal is to save links with my file system organization instead of duplicating that inside an application.

This is something I once did routinely with Safari on Mac OS, but eOS doesn't map without a default desktop. I expected FF to have a menu selection, contextual or not, or key combo common to all platforms, but I found nothing and very little online comment about this.

As a workaround, I can accomplish this is by dragging a highlighted URL from the FF address field to an open file manager directory window. The test file was under a reasonable 200 bytes and launched FF when double-clicked. However, this is cumbersome if the environment isn't ready and waiting, requiring opening a file manager without a desktop, navigating the file system, reducing maximized windows, and stacking windows within reach. Also, copying URL text can't be pasted into the file manager to create a new file; just thought I'd try it.

Short of installing a third party desktop, am I missing a simple way to do this with FF?

Bonus Question: what does the attached icon mean to you? I thought the little arrow on the known "code" document icon was mimicking Windows' shortcut style, but it's not an alias and I honestly don't know what the arrow means. If you action the file of this icon it opens a FF tab as I wrote above, but won't launch "code" even if asked, only readable from within code.

Hi, volunteers!

About an every every hour or two, Firefox shows a compelled "Restart required" page with a "Firefox has just been updated in the background" message, which yet absolutely sure has nothing to do with disabled automatic updates.

These and pyllyukko's user.js preferences have been set:

  • browser.cache.disk.enable;false
  • browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl;false
  • browser.cache.memory.capacity;5000000 # -1
  • browser.cache.memory.enable;true

The page is shown either hard or solid state drive is used with 8 GB RAM on board, `free -h` shows more than enough. "Storage disk location" value for `memory` and `disk` (except `appcache`) from the `about:cache` page is "none, only stored in memory".

Appreciate your time and efforts, this message haunts me no matter what for so long.

Hi, When I set up the option to delete all cookies when we close firefox, Firefox transform a persistant cookies into a session cookies. This is not wat the option means. When the checkbox is not set, the persistant cookies is there.

I think it is a bug because the option is not about transforming a persistant cookies into a session cookies, but to clear all cookies (session and persistant) and data when we close firefox.

disabling HW acceleration solved my problem, but is this can be fixed in a future update, I will be more than happy to enable it again.

please let me know if you want more info on my system.

Firefox seems to have some threshold to leap to a larger font or a different font rendering scheme when adjusting the (Font) Scaling Factor in Ubuntu Tweaks. Nothing happens in Firefox windows until the Scaling Factor reaches 1.25 (125%) and then it jumps to render larger fonts everywhere. (next jump at 1.4) See the screenshots for the difference. What is this threshold? What is the actual parameter Firefox reacts to? Can I control it manually within Firefox?

This question has a rather convoluted background: I have replaced my 2560x1600 monitor with the 3840x1600 monitor and suddenly all Firefox windows render super ugly. It's not that they just look smaller due to to the smaller PPI but rather their font shape causes my eyes to tear. Previously the sensation was very soft. I do not know what that is but it seems it's not just the size. Could it be Firefox is using some information from the monitor that brings it to a sub-optimal font rendering/hinting/antialiasing behavior?

Increasing (Font) Scaling Factor to 1.25 via "Ubuntu (Gnome) Tweaks" app makes the fonts look acceptable again. Ubuntu Scaling Factor obviously also changes the size of other windows and their fonts. So I would rather keep the Scaling at 100% and just make sure the fonts are rendered in Firefox as before with the old monitor. I.e. I would like to remove this quality regression. The fonts can be controlled via Firefox properties but as expected this either increases all font sizes or doesn't work for proprietary fonts supplied by web pages (min font size). There should be a better solution than tweaking each font individually. The fact that the fonts are suddenly rendered acceptably again after the Scaling Factor reaches 1.25 makes me think that there may be some threshold in Firefox that makes it use different rendering scheme, mechanism or such. After 1.25 nothing happens until Scaling Factor reaches 1.4, then the font increases again. So can I just make Firefox render fonts as when scaling is at 1.25 but with the actual scaling factor at 1.0?

Apart from the overall size/resolution the monitors (old Samsung 305T vs. new Dell u3821dw) have different pixel pitch 0.2505 mm, PPI 101 (old) vs. 0.22908 and PPI 110,87 (new). Can this this be the root cause of the ugly fonts? So is there maybe a different parameter or setting to tell Firefox to render fonts regardless the higher PPI or lower pixel pitch?

I would expect everything to look just a bit smaller due to a smaller pixel pitch, but instead the fonts are rendered completely different and I can't find the setting that would fix that.

Just FYI I have been playing with these settings: Firefox: - Default Zoom 120% - Check Zoom Text Only - Minimal font size - layout.css.devPixelsPerPx 1 - gfx.font_rendering.cleartype_params.force_gdi_classic_max_size 100 Ubuntu: - Scaling Factor - System Fonts

I'm on Ubuntu 18.04 using Firefox 89.0 Ubuntu canonical-1.0 .

I can't seem to install vsn 89. I have vsn 87.0 currently and Netflix won't run without an upgrade. Also, Amazon Prime requires Widevine, which requires a FF upgrade, so I need to upgrade. The best I have been able to do is download the tar file and run Extract on it. According to the file viewer, the latest version of FF is loaded, but when I run the program, it's still v. 87, not 89. The simplest method given is to open the 'About Mozilla Firefox' window and the downloader will run. But there is no downloader running when I do that. I would really appreciate it if someone would supply instructions that actually work.

BTW: I've looked for them, and I don't find the 'required' library items. But if these are truly required and I don't have them, how has FF been running at all these past months? I concluded that either they are installed but I couldn't find them, or they aren't really required at all. I've also tried Flatpack and it doesn't work either.

I am using Firefox on Linux (Ubuntu 20.10) to work from home over OpenVPN. Recently the VPN configuration was changed to use split tunneling to improve our internet connection. Since then I have had several DNS resolving issues in Firefox.

We use an on premise DNS server as an alternative to `localhost` domain names so we can access other developers' environments and so a few services can do the same. Our URL structure is like projectname.[optional personal identifier.]localhost.[type].nl. Without the [optional personal identifier], or when nothing is configured for it, the ip address is 127.0.0.1.

In Linux' OpenVPN configuration I have "Use this connection only for resource on its network" enabled for IPv4 and IPv6 is disabled (to benefit from split tunneling). With that enabled Firefox usually fails to resolve such development hostnames.

- As far as I know I do not have DoH enabled (and the about:networking log further down tells so too). - I do have `dnsmasq` enabled (with configuration for the above domain formats to route to 127.0.0.1 also) in an attempt to fix some issues before the split tunneling was configured correctly. And in an attempt to try and get Firefox to handle these DNS resolving issues. - `dig` on the command line for the same domain works just fine. - Adding hostnames to /etc/hosts works. But that's becoming a chore, working on dozens of projects over months.

Why is Firefox failing to resolve such domain names? Should I just create a Bugzilla issue?

I created a log with about:networking set to `timestamp,nsHostResolver:5`:

I've attached an image showing the tab in Firefox 89.0 (Left side) and the same Discord session in Firefox 88.0.1 (Right side). In Firefox 88.0.1, the notification emblem shows on the tab, but in FF 89.0, it doesn't.
