Mac running Mavericks Crashes Firefox Daily. EXC_BAD_ACCESS / KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE Please help.
Hi, I have a Mac running Mavericks and Firefox keeps crashing most daily for the past three months and I get a "Firefox has crashed submit report" popup.
It is usually if I am playing a youtube video or a movie (more then one) at a time. Or if one video is loading and I try to play or load another. I notice if I "que" or pre-load a long video (more then 15 minutes), then try to play a new one it will crash.
I have tried the following solutions none of which have worked:
A) Uninstalling and reinstalling firefox
B) Reset Firefox (Help, troubleshooting information, reset firefox)
C) Turn off hardware acceleration (Firefox, preferences, un-check hardware acceleration)
D) Turn off "enable hardware acceleration in "youtube" (it now asks me each time if I would allow it to play)
E) Plugin Check and Updates are all up to date (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/) I only have:
SharePoint Browser Plug-in (research)
Default Browser Helper (research)
These plugins are up to date: (as of March 7th 2014)
Shockwave for Director 12.0.6 (Up to Date)
Shockwave Flash 126.96.36.199 (Up to Date)
QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.3 (Up to Date)
Sometimes I get this as the "signature": libsystem_platform.dylib@0x4280
Again I have tried the above solutions but they have not worked. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Shawn, Thank you for your question, can you please provide an example of one of the crash reports?
This particular signature is in the top reports https://crash-analysis.mozilla.com/rk.../2014-02-10.firefox.27.0.mavericks.topcrash.html but there are no bugs for i yet. I filed this bug, but I will need you to add the crash information to it please. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=982223
Hi Guigs2, Thank You for the reply. Was getting worried no one was going to help me. I am not sure how to attach the crash report. I have copied and pasted it here: Signature libsystem_platform.dylib@0x4280 More Reports Search UUID 8ad72df1-8891-46e4-849f-d3e2a2140307 Date Processed 2014-03-07 22:54:36.428514 Uptime 64662 Last Crash 107531 seconds before submission Install Age 1835073 since version was first installed. Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
- Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
Hi Shawnhonolulu, Try Safe mode one more time and see if it also crashes. ^ corel's post has the instructions.
Unfortunately we can only see the crash reports details if it has a bp in front of it. How to submit a crash is below: We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
- Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.
Thank you for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes article.
Thank you Guigs2 here is the information: bp-924bb54b-2425-459f-940d-3d7582140311 3/11/14 12:08 PM bp-adffacde-ed00-41eb-819f-b508f2140311 3/11/14 11:41 AM bp-939a8555-6d9f-4d1d-9623-ad4062140311 3/11/14 11:36 AM bp-e422bc9f-fe92-4293-acba-91f5c2140307 3/7/14 1:28 PM bp-b8f35b7b-28a6-405f-a59e-9d6642140307 3/7/14 1:22 PM
This is affecting the new version as well. With the release today, can you try Firefox beta and let us know if this continues to crash?
If it does, in the meantime please disable hardware acceleration in Firefox. I am not an expert but the reports are showing a part of the code to set memory http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozill.../DrawTargetCG.cpp#l1264 while back end is accelerated? but I am not too intimate with the code.
