firefox keeps refusing to connect me to sites I've visited many times and are secure, I press 'allow' sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, what do I do?
Firefox recently started stating in a black bar across the top
"firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" allow
sometimes when I press 'allow' it does, other times even on sites I've used many many times in the past, and know they are secure, such as my Uni library account, it just keeps coming up with the same bar.
Can anybody help me get rid of it? preferably for good! It's just slowing me down, and is infuriating. Also my energy account 'Scottish Power', now has to be opened in Safari, as firefox just logs me out within seconds, Scottish Power themselves told me to use Safari instead, and that works fine, but I am used to firefox and would prefer to keep it, it's becoming more and more difficult to use, WHY?
Have taken screen shot and was expecting a 'browse' box, but no, so cannot upload picture either.When I tried to install the troubleshooting recommended below, firefox won't allow it as insecure! Isn't it a bit over the top when it thinks its own site insecure? what on earth is going on?

This feature can be disabled:
- Go to the Firefox options
- Go to the Advanced tab
- Select the General section
- Uncheck the Warn Websites When They Try To Redirect...
- Click Ok

Regarding getting logged out, this might be caused by inconsistent/busted files/cookies or unusual connection settings.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- click the padlock or globe to the left of the URL in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
To check your connection settings:
Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button
Try "No proxy" and see whether that helps.

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
