why isn't yahoo.com recognized as a secure site???

Được đăng

in the last month yahoo changed their home webpage and ever since then firefox has behaved strangely. It no longer recognizes the login page as secure with a green label and no longer automatically supplies usernames and passwords from the password vault. Nor does it ask if I want to save a username and password. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks george

The autocomplete=off attribute affects saving the name and password, but also prevents Firefox from auto-filling the name and password.

Firefox won't auto-fill a saved name automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so you need to double-click the empty name field to get a drop-down list.

I, too, get a gray padlock on the sign-in page here: https://login.yahoo.com/config/login. It's still secure, it just isn't assured to be Yahoo.

Regarding the password, there have been many reports of this. For example this thread (mixed results): Saved username and passwords no longer works on Yahoo Mail.

The certificate that Yahoo uses ends up with the same root certificate as this forum site uses (DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA). Only on this forum the intermediate certificate (DigiCert High Assurance EV CA-1) that is used is also an EV certificate, but is a normal certificate (DigiCert High Assurance CA-3) on the Yahoo log in page and that breaks the EV chain. Yahoo will have to switch to an EV intermediate certificate instead of the currently used certificate. Firefox seems to be more strict than Google Chrome in this case (Google Chrome shows a green EV connection).

Hi jscher2000 thanks to you and cor-el for your responses. answers the trusted site issue but I'm not sure I'm willing to put in all the effort to resolve the password issue. guess I will just wait for yahoo to resolve it in some way - it's a bummer as this was a very convenient tool. works really well for all other sites.

The Yahoo login page uses autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox store form data like names and passwords.

Hi Cor-el I may be doing something wrong but I think I have tried the steps specified several times and the username and password are not being saved. The steps I have used are the following: open firefox browser to Yahoo login page, enter username and password. open 2nd tab and invoke bookmarklet. go back to 1st tab and execute login. I do not get a prompt to save username and password to password file. I check password file and there is no yahoo.com entry. any other thoughts?? thanks for your help.

Hi keoki1941, I'm pretty sure you need to run the bookmarklet on the actual login form you are submitting. Otherwise, those fields will still be marked autocomplete="off" and Firefox will therefore not offer to save the login.

I may be doing this the wrong way but here is what I tried following your suggestion:

opened a tab with a login to Yahoo. filled out username and password. invoked the bookmarklet in the tab which then cleared the login screen.

so then I tried: opened a tab with a login to Yahoo. filled out username and password. added the bookmarklet to the entry in the login tab. executed login and nothing happened - no prompt for saving either username or password

at this point I am not sure how to proceed. thanks

You need to run the bookmarklet before submitting the sign in form (click the "Sign In" button) and while you are on the tab where you have entered the name and password of the Yahoo email account.
That will make Firefox ask to save the name and password in the usual way (pop-up of the key icon on the location bar).

OK - let me repeat what I have tried.

I open a tab and load it with the Yahoo sign-in page. I type in the username and password. I don't click the Sign In button

I run the bookmarklet in the tab with the Yahoo sign-in page by clicking on the bookmark. The bookmarklet replaces the entry for the Yahoo sign-in page thus replacing the entire Yahoo sign-in page.

I am obviously not doing something right with the bookmarklet. I have read the instructions on how to create a bookmarklet and how to execute it but to no avail. Perhaps a video would help.

thanks

This bookmarklet shouldn't make any changes to to name and password that you have entered on the sign on page.
The order doesn't matter, so you can also first run the bookmarklet code and then enter the name and password.

Does the alert from the bookmarklet confirm that some fields with autocomplete=off were found and that the autocomplete attribute has been removed (i.e. the count is not zero)?

Just to be sure, can you post the content of the location field of the bookmarklet (i.e the JavaScript code) if it doesn't work as expected?

you can also use an addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/remember-passwords/ to circumvent the password-saving restriction.

I have tried both ways.

I get no response other than clearing the page.

Here is content of bookmarklet: https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/forms.html#remember_password

Running the bookmarklet code by invoking the bookmark shouldn't clear the current page.

You did create a bookmark and pasted the JavaScript code in the location field or right-clicked the bookmarklet link on the squarefree page and used bookmark this link?

OK - in trying to find the javascript I discovered what I was doing wrong. Here is javascript - couldn't cut and paste so the squiggly brackets and parentheses may be interchanged. javascript:(function{}{var%20ca,cea,cs,df...0to%20remember%20your%20password.")}){};

I now get the following message after invoking the javascript: Removed autocomplete=off from 1 form and from 2 form elements, and removed onsubmit from 0 forms. After you type your password and submit the form, the browser will offer to remember your password.

I did submit the login and did get prompted to save the password. However the login never completed. I did check the password file and it did indeed save the username and password. and now when I redo the login it still does not autofill either the username or the password.

Any more thoughts.

The brackets after function need to be rounded bracket instead of curly brackets just like the two brackets at the end.

  • javascript:(function{}{var% ....}){}; -> javascript:(function(){var% ....})();

any thoughts on why the login page does not prompt or autofill after the password has been saved?

You should type the JavaScript code as that can to easily lead to errors (any typo made can cause the bookmarklet failing to work).
You should always copy such a code by using "Copy Link Location" and paste the code in the location field of a new bookmark.
On the Squarefree web page easiest is to right-click the link with the bookmarklet and use "Bookmark This Link" in the right-click context menu.

Cor-el what I did was drag the "remember password" bookmarklet to the bookmark toolbar and clicked it to execute it. It solves the username/password saving.

It does not solve the autofill username and password on subsequent login attempts.

thanks.
