I have had to reset Firefox 3 times. Everytime I notice an "Old Firefox Data" folder appear on my desktop with subsequent numbers following the title. What are these files for? What do I do with them?

Thank you.

These are copies of your old profile after you reset Firefox. Firefox automatically transfers your personal information to when it's Reset, but it creates a second backup just in case you need it. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Hi delmdelm2

you can keep the latest Old Firefox data 3, and of course you can move or restore the file wherever you like, as Tylerdowner said, in his reply, it is a backup file just in case you need it.

thank you

Note that you may have gotten a Safe mode pop-up window with a Reset button as a result of multiple crashes.

Interesting. With all the above messages I could not find what I was looking for. So let me try make a long story short. Since I downloaded the latest FF (17.01) I was unable to lower my tab below the Bookmark tool bar. After doing some research I made and executive decision that my tabs are corrupted and I need the "Troubleshoot" and "Reset" FF. This caused me a bigger problem because I lost all my extentions.

Having restored most of my lost extentions over a period of an afternoon, my question pupped up weather or not I could have restore them from the "Old Firefox Data" placed on my Desktop. Or, Rese't function would create a new set of "Old Firefox Data" and so on..... So, what I would like to know is that is there a RESTORE from the Old FF Data is possible and if so HOW? Many thanks.

I also just did a reset of Firefox, in a desperate move to get videos to play after trying the "uninstall/reinstall" of a bunch of plugins to no avail. Since the problem wasn't related to plugins (or at least, none that made any sense), I did a reset. This also did not solve the problem and videos still won't play in Firefox. So, since that was not the problem, I also wanted to revert to my previous personalized version of Firefox. I found that right-clicking on that "Old Firefox Data" folder brings up an option to "Sync this folder." I followed the instructions and sort of got my old version. However, the toolbar is below the tabs, as you say, which I find to be particularly annoying and can't remember how to fix it. Also, my theme is no longer there. But all of my bookmarks and history came back. Let me know if you figure out how to get the tabs immediately above the window so I don't keep clicking the bookmark instead of the tab!! (Also, if you have any additional suggestions about the video thing, I'm very interested. At this point, I've decided to abandon Firefox and revert to using IE.)

I have a folder called Old Firefox Data how do I use it?

If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, passwords, cookies, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).

You can recover more data from the old profile (be cautious with doing that).
