I cannot get rid of the AOL tool bar. I use FF 14.0.1. Posted solutions for old versions of FF do not work.
This is a problem that occurs on my wife's computer, not this one. The only difference on that computer is that has a D-Link USB adapter as it is connected to our network via a wireless router. Could that have something to do with the problem? Could the installation of the D-Link program have brought along the AOL tool bar with it?

I'm not sure of the source of the AOL toolbar, but generally speaking, you should be able to at least disable (hide) if not fully remove the bar.
Can you find it here:
orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

That is what is so disturbing about it. The offending AOL is not listed in the add-on or extension lists, so it doesn't allow me to disable or delete it.
Is it a true toolbar or something inserted into the pages? True toolbars appear here:
Alt+v (open classic View menu) > Toolbars
It's also possible that it's a set of buttons added to a built-in toolbar. To remove those, you can use the customize feature.
Alt+v (open classic View menu) > Toolbars > Customize
Drag unwanted buttons or other controls off the bars into the box of unused buttons.
As far as actually getting rid of whatever it is, do you want to post a list of the enabled extensions from this page:
Help > Troubleshooting Information
It's not always pretty when pasted into the forum, but someone might spot the culprit.

I ended up solving the problem by first uninstalling the D-Link program and then reinstalling it. At that point the AOL toolbar showed up in my FF extensions (it had not showed up in extensions previously in the original D-Link install ), and I was able to disable or remove it. Apparently, although D-Link denies it, there is some relationship between D-Link & FF that allows an unintended AOL toolbar to show up.
