Today, June 10, 2012, I was asked to update Adobe Flash player, which I did. I was also asked to update Real Player, which I did. I had also updated Firefox before that.

Now, whenever I try to watch a video on Youtube, I get the message: An error occurred. Try again later.

I am using a Dell Inspiron laptop with Vista home basic.

Disabling the Real Player plug-in will NOT fix this issue. It's been tried and did NOTHING!! Safe Mode did NOT fix the issue!! That should tell you that it is NOT any add-on or extension!! Think people!

The problem is ENTIRELY with the Flash Player 11.3 version update that was published in the past 72 hours! The 11.3 version is NOT compatible with Firefox - ANY VERSION!! No matter what you do, no matter what you try, 11.3 will NOT work with Firefox! It Does work with IE9 and Chrome, but NOT Firefox. Apparently Adobe forgot to check to see if 11.3 works Firefox. Their error.

To fix this, there is a simple work around. First UNINSTALL 11.3. Adobe has an uninstall program for this; google it. Then go to the Adobe FP Versions Archive and download the 11.2 version ZIP file. Here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_11.2.202.233_archive.zip . Then, AFTER removing 11.3, download the 11.2 and unpack it. You will find TWO install executable files; run both - one is the ActiveX and the other is the Plug-in.

Your system is NOW fixed, but remember to turn OFF the auto-updates on the Flash Player in the Control Panel or it will re-install 11.3. I'd suggest you put it into the ASK ME mode. That way you'll have control.

Again, the issue is NOT Real Player, it's the 11.3 version update of Flash Player. Clicking on that link above will auto-start the download.

Note that the problem is not the RealPlayer plugin that is used to play media files, but the "RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin" extension (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that is used to save media files played by other plugins.

Well I use MP4 Downloader and I'm having no problems I guess you could try what I use to download YouTube videos until there's a fix for this problem.

I agree it is the Adobe update that caused the problem I don't want to disconnect Realplayer either, and I know it's not a fix, but it allows me to use Youtube and view other media that I need at the moment. Once Adobe fixes their end of the problem, I will reconnect the Realplayer Web Downloader and Recorder.

For everyone reporting this issue, please try the steps in the Flash 11.3 KB article. Follow all of the steps! If you have completed all of the steps (or never had RealPlayer installed to begin with), we are going to need more information to solve the issue. We will need the output from about:support and about:plugins if the posted steps are not working.

att-G,

You need to read closer. This has been solved. It's not Real Player anything. It's the FP version 11.3. You just have to uninstall the 11.3 and then reinstall the 11.2 and set the Flash Player in Control Panel to "Notify Me" for updates so it doesn't re-install the bad 11.3. To check what version you now have go here and it will tell you: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html . To get the old 11.2 version, go here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_11.2.202.233_archive.zip . Unpack it and run both the install programs, one for the ActiveX and the other for the Plug-in. It's either this or use another browser. 11.3 simply is NOT compatible with Firefox. Adobe has been notified.

As for the Real Player, unless it's causing FF to crash, leave it along and enabled. It's working fine on my system and others. Disable if you want, but that's not really needed. The report on it's issue is an error.

This issue for now, is SOLVED. Every thing works just fine with version 11.2!! Please, no more BS about Real Player! That is NOT the problem here!!!

Note that the fp_11.2.202.233_archive.zip is not the latest 11.2 release.

It is better to use this link to the latest (current) 11.2.202.235 version.

Cor-el,

You're right, but the 233 version was the latest one listed on the Archive page, released just 6 weeks ago. Where did you find the 235 version? It's not on that Archive page. Either way, they will both work OK, until Adobe gets off their butts and fixes 11.3. Thanks.

Cor-el, et al:

I just got the following Tweet from Adobe:

"Adobe_Care @OldeGreyWoolf Sorry for the trouble, Bob. It's being worked on. Can revert to 11.2, or disable Protected Mode for now: http://t.co/lmau2UN6"

While I do NOT agree with Real Player article they reference, it's great to know that they have got the message and are working to resolve it! Any time any thing like this happens, you should immediately complete an Adobe Bug Report. The more reports and the sooner with as much detail as possible, will go a long way toward getting them moving on a repair! Do it!

Ok, sorry to be so inept at all this, but I checked my programs, and I have Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX 64-bit, and Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin. Do I need to delete both of these and install the 11.2.202.235 version? And I notice that version is 32-bit. My laptop is 64-bit. Will this be a problem?

more options

Firefox is a 32 bit application, so you need the 32 bit version of the Flash plugin for Firefox.
If IE is 64 bit then you need the 64 bit ActiveX version for IE.

Thank you so much OldeGreyWoolf, and cor-el! The correction worked! I have disabled the automatic updates, opting instead for notification of new updates.

Very much appreciate the insight and advice!

Thank you for all for your help I can now view Cams on the web Remaining problem If I play one youtube video it plays fine, if I play another I see video and hear two audio feeds from the same video. If I hit pause one of the double audios stops but the video freezes. If I close and restart FireFox the same routine will happen when I use Youtube.

This began after FP 11.3 was installed, which also did not allow me to view CAMS and youtube video alert = error occured. try again later. I uninstalled (using FP uninstaller) FP 11.3 and installed 11.2.202.235 which corrected theCAM & try again later message problems, but I still have the double audio problem with youtube. Any suggestions ?

I found an add-on in Firefox that had been disabled due to a warning Realplayer Record Browser Plugin known to cause security or stability issues Realplayer Record Browser Plugin 15.0.4 Detects All recordable content on the browser I just enabled it and the double audio issue is cleared up ! Everything (including myself) seems to be happy now !

OK So until there is some other solution to this I simply just disabled my shockwave flash 11.3 and my videos started playing again so right now just disable shockwave flash in your add-ons manager and you should be fine, but if that doesn't work then I don't know what to tell you, I'm using Windows 7 btw so I'm not sure about other computers.

wait wait, that didnt work crap, so maybe I need to use the 32 bit version of adobe flash for FF instead right...

Hi Guys

Really simple like 99% of computer errors. Just takes some logical thinking and after learning webdesign got used to it. You need to go to TOOLS and ADD-ONS and click at the top of the plugins screan CHECK TO SEE IF PLUGINS ARE UP TO DATE. For some reason the new flash player update, does not update the plugin, so the firefox plugin needs to be updated. Its just a simple program conflict. P.S the reason why it does not change when reinstalling firefox is because the plugins are saved on your hard drive so reinstalling firfox will not change the plugin.
