Three related questions 1. Is it possible to download Firefox without also getting Blekko malware? 2. How do I delete Blekko malware and restore to prior state? 3. How can a respected organization like Mozilla allow its main product to load malware?

Mozilla doesn't deliver Firefox with malware. Just download Firefox from the official website http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ (or use auto-update) but not from third party websites. If you are infected by a malware, maybe you visited an infected website or you installed an infected application.

you can also report the website which offered the bundled/infected download to mozilla in order for them to take action: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/fr.../index.html

Where did you download this Firefox from? Mozilla would never bundle any software into Firefox, especially without your permission. However, unscrupulous third-parties with their own interests will sometimes try to trick people into downloading and installing an illegitimate version of Firefox that may have viruses, spyware, etc. The only 100% trusted download source for firefox is www.getfirefox.com, which is 100% safe and secure with no malware.

I suggest you uninstall whatever version of Firefox you have, download it fresh from the site I referenced above, and install it. If you still are having an issue with Blekko, Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.

If Blekko is malware why are they partnering with Lavasoft? I went to filehippo to install Lavasoft to remove Blekko and in the installation Ad aware had a checkmark to install Blekko?????

March 26, 2012 09:03 AM-(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lavasoft, the original anti-malware company, today announced a partnership with blekko, the search engine using human curation to eliminate spam from search results, to provide a spam-free search experience for consumers.

After deleting Blekko everywhere I could, if I type random letters into firefox browser and then hit enter, it still takes me to Blekko search engine. I can't believe Lavasoft would partner with a program that is so hard to remove and acts like spam. Did Lavasoft sell out?????

Does anyone know how to completely remove Blekko without entering the registry?

@wiflan, you can install the search reset addon in order to revert search related settings to the default - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

Thanks, that appears to have fixed the problem.

Blekko is aweful! You can pick it up here or there or here. Suggestions from techies give you a ton of jargony 'help' (and I'm not saying it's bad, but...) just when in you're THE MIDDLE OF TRYING TO MOVE. No one has time for this unwanted crap! And we aren't all techies.

I also found Malwarebytes to be stinky. I don't waste any time (deliberately) with progs that don't look or behave right. I am really peeved at established, reputable orgs (CNET, Adaware, Firefox?) who bundle 3rd party stuff (good or bad) with their products and essentially force them on you. I just don't have the time for this.

I'm seeing several Blekko problems being discussed, and I have a new answer for one of them. This is NOT about Blekko showing up as your homepage, your default search tool, or toolbar. This is about Blekko showing up whenever you open a new tab - overriding the Firefox New Tab feature.

As some have noted, Lavasoft has partnered with Blekko and bundled Blekko into its downloads as an install option. When I started seeing Blekko on each new tab and could not figure out how to turn it off, I wrote to Blekko. They told me it can do that if you have the Ad-Aware Security Toolbar installed and active. When I disabled the Ad-Aware toolbar, the Blekko search window stopped showing up on new tabs and by browser reverted to default functions.
