When I restart firefox and open yt video, the player is always of the small size 360p. It just doesn't remember the player size. It was OK on firefox 10.0.2, so I reverted to that version, and it's working again, remembering the size. The same thing was happening few versions back. When I updated to FF 8.0 (from 7.0) it stopped remembering the size, but then it was fixed in later version, I don't remember which exactly, 9.0 or 10.0. So it was OK for some time, and now again exactly the same thing with 11.0. What's going on with FF? And can I fix it somehow? Because right now I'm stuck to 10.0, cause I'm tired clicking the large player button every time I restart my browser.

Please check if this happens in a new profile. If it's okay, you can later copy the needed personal data from the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in another location separate from its files/folder. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings (Tools (Alt + T) > Options, and about:config ), and usually would also be empty of any Extensions and themes (Appearance) in Tools > Add-ons) and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website data/settings etc., (Tools > Clear Recent History).

Same thing on a new profile, and I also remember checking this with version 8.0, and also same result.

After restarting Firefox please check if the YouTube cookie is still present in Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Privacy > Remove individual cookies or in Show Cookies. If the cookie is not present there could be another application or perhaps its extension/plugin (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions, Plugins) deleting Firefox data as it is closed.

Such a setting is usually stored in a cookie.
That can be a normal cookie or in the local storage os a Flash cookie (LSO).

Try to clear the Flash cookies (LSO) and settings (all or only for YouTube/Google).

  • Windows Control Panel > Flash Player, click Delete All and Delete Data

Do you have security or cleanup software that might block or remove the cookies?

more options

Ok, so what I found out so far:

- The player size resets even on Firefox 10.0 on a new profile. It doesn't resets only on my profile.

- I found the cookie which holds the player size (attached screenshot, wide 0 means small player, wide 1 means large player), and it gets removed after FF restarts ("Wygasa: Pod koniec sesji" mens Expire: At the end of the session).

So what can I do to stop it from removing? Btw am I the only person with this problem? How is your YT player behaving? Because neither then, nor now, I see ppl complaining about it. So is your player remembering the wide size?

What are the cookie settings?

Do you keep cookies until they expire or until you close Firefox?

You can try to add an allow exception for the YouTube cookies.

more options

I'm not sure, I haven't changed anything regarding the cookies. In the "Informations about youtube.com" I have cookies set to use default, which is "allow".

I should mention that since some FF version I use about:config tweak to have a popup when closing FF with more than one tabs opened, asking whether save the tabs or not, but I don't remember what was it called.

I assume that the cookie is set to expire at the end of the session by youtube, but since my session is saved and then restored, that cookie isn't deleted. But why now with FF 11.0 even though I'm saving my session it gets deleted?

Remember, I already reinstalled Firefox back and forth like 4 or 5 times, and every time the cookie stays with FF 10.0 but gets deleted with 11.0 - nothing has changed in the options.

Is the correct cookie created if you select a large player?

Is that cookie still there with the correct value after you close and restart Firefox?

Did you try to change the cookie permission for YT from default to allow?

more options

Yeah, the cookie is created right after I click the large size button, it gets deleted after Firefox 11.0 restart, but not after Firefox 10.0 restart.

I just tried setting an exception for youtube.com to Allow, and to Allow for the session, and it still gets deleted.

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

It happens on a new profile too, but I checked it and renamed cookies.sqlite, but no go.

Safe Mode didn't help either.

And I don't use any software like CCleaner.

It's something that has changed in new Firefox. But I would like to know if it's working for you? Does the cookie 'wide' stays after the FF restart? Because if it's happening to everyone then there is nothing I can do.

Is there a chance that you are not signed in?? I've never noticed it but you are correct. The cookie seems to be expiring when not signed in. But when signed in, the setting holds as usual even after restarting Firefox.

Signed in to youtube account? I am. So for you, the 'wide' cookie stays if you are signed in to YT account, but gets removed if you are log off? And all this on FF 11.0, or 10.0?

Oh, and btw I forget to mention, when you are restarting FF there can't be any youtube site opened, cause then it works even for me. For some reason, when I have a youtube site opened (can be even the front page) the cookie is not deleted. It's deleted when there is no youtube site opened on restart. <- but this only on FF 11.0.

I'm using Firefox 11.0, and the site tab has to be open.

Yeah, that's the thing, it has to be open on FF 11.0, but on FF 10.0 I didn't have to have it open to get it to remember. So what has changed, and why? Can it be reported somewhere?

more options

You can report it here. In Firefox 10 the setting seems to stay even when not signed in.

Later versions of 3.6 have the same problem. For about a year now, anytime I close the browser, it reverts to the small player.
