Hard refresh (Ctrl F5) means constant authentication required dialogue
I work from behind a corporate network and use Firefox for web development.
Firefox 8 works fine for web browsing but when I use "Ctrl F5" the Authentication Required dialogue comes up for every element on a given web page.
This is obviously not practical for pages with large numbers of images and so on.
The following message appears at the top of the dialogue:
"The proxy moz-proxy://proxy1.netkit.mycompany.gov:6000 is requesting a username and password. The site says: "moz-proxy://proxy1.netkit.mycompany.gov:6000""
If I use just "F5" then Firefox works as normal. I have older versions of Firefox Portable on the same machine that are unaffected by this issue.

I have the same issue. Tested on Firefox 7 without issue. This is specific to Firefox 8. Occurs on Windows 7 and MAC. Only occurs after hitting CTRL-F5. After refreshing with CTRL-F5 every request within the page requires a re-authentication, so every image on the page trying to load will pop up an authentication box even though you are already authenticated to the site, and even if the image is available publicly and shouldn't even require authentication.
Hello I found a bug in FF 8.x, 9. x and 10.x which is the following, when accessed a Web site that requires authentication, I put the login and password and it passes, but if preciono CTRL + F5 to do an update of the site he is only asking for the username and password and not leave more tests screen have to leave FF and reopen. follows the environment data:
Server: Windows 2008 R2/IIS 7/Dot Net 3.5 Season: Windows Vista/Windows 7/FF FF 8.x and 9.x
Proxy is not a problem because I tested without using proxy.
Same bug here with Windows XP and FFX 8.0.1. Very annoying... :/
Does someone has a proxy demo with username/password to test? (it will help) Do you have the type of the proxy? SOCKS proxies?

No solution for me. I downloaded FF 9.01 and went to my dev page (localhost). Filled in the login dialog once and it was all ok. Then CTRL+F5 gives me the login dialog box for every file the page is trying to load. Same as before :-(
same problem here. fedora 15, behind corporate proxy (squid, NTLM auth) updated from 7.0 to 9.0.1 regular refreshes are ok, but hard refresh causes endless authentication pop-ups (1 for each element in the page i believe) when reverting back to Firefox 7.0 problem is gone. super annoying. i can't update until this issue is fixed since i CTRL-f5 100 times a day.. :(
Are you sure your proxy is not applying bad user agent filtering?
I manage the proxy and I'm 100% sure of it :)
I'm running firefox on a Mac on a windows based corporate network, I get the same prompt all the time and it's very difficult to find information on the net about this. Can anyone help?
For anyone who needs a fix, I have tried about:config (in the address bar), then entering the required domain in the string value of network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris, network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris and network.negotiate-auth.delegation-uris and nothing has changed.
I am told the proxy we are using for the macs does not ask for credentials which is confusing.
I have the same problem. Tried changing IPv6 and DNS Prefetching as suggested on the Firefox Help page with no results (had to add the network.dns.disablePrefetch key as it was not present)
This is a serious and irritating problem that needs to be addressed.
Just upgraded to Firefox 12 and I'm still seeing this issue. It's been 5 months since the original post, and every version of Firefox past 7 has this issue. Has Mozilla officially acknowledged this issue? Can we get some kind of update from them?

Is that the only bug tracker post? This post seems different than what they are mentioning. I can't speak for everyone, but it sounds like a lot of us only started seeing issues after upgrading from Firefox 7 -> Firefox 8+
Fill yourself another bug report if you think your issue is different. I don't own any proxy server to test, so you're the appropriate person to describe the issue.

Same problem here with Squid 3.1.20 + Ntlm Authentication. I just installed Firefox14b7 and the issue seems to be fixed (no more pop-up showing up)
