I can go to Hotmail from the Run menu or from a bookmark and it will open in Firefox. If, however, I use the "E-mail" button in the permanent Start Menu, it uses Internet Explorer. Can I get this to honor my default browser selection or must I give up the (handy) Start Menu?

Open Options/Advance and go to the General tab. At the bottom of this window click Check now. Firefox will be set as default in your systems registry. If this doesn't work than there really is nothing you can do.I Think.

If that isn't clear get this link a read. Make Firefox your default browser

Also, Open Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Programs tab -> Remove Checkmark from Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the Default Browser -> click OK

Check and tell if its working.

Firefox IS set as my default browser and when I have gone to the place you indicated in Control Panel, it still says Firefox is the default browser, even tho' Internet Explorer was just used. You can see why it is frustrating. Thanks.

Oh you must mean in the Start menu properties.

Right click on the Start menu, then click properties,

you will see a "Customize" button click it,
at the bottom of the next dialog box that opens you will see "Use Default Settings", below that you can change what browser or mail client that is hard set to the Start menu list.
