with some regularity, everytime I attempt to view videos on the Weather Channel, Firefox not only freezes, but it locks down any keyboard entry to close it, thus forcing a shutdown of my computer, ...
this problem is not duplicated when viewing same page in Internet Explorer8.0.6xxx.

This was most recent website visited and when it automatically redirected to the next video in line, it froze the mouse. I tried to launch the task manager at which point it locked out the keyboard.
(This PC is a Dell Precision T3500 w/ 6G of RAM running WinXP Pro x64, there is no rationale for this kind of incompetence.)
This happens WAY TOO OFTEN, like more than 50% of visits to video oriented sites like youtube etc

If a plugin has focus then it processes all keys.
Doesn't the mouse work at all if you click elsewhere?
Did you ever change the timeout pref (dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs) for Out-Of-Process-Plugins?

when the video page freezes, so does the mouse, the mouse does NOT Move
Did you ever change the timeout pref .... ?
Never knew I could do this as it is not in the Firefox options and since Firefox locks up without warning or error messages, it never provides fixes I have now made the change to the -1 setting per the information on the link you sent, so will see if this provides any resolution to this ignorant problem.
well that didn't really fix the problem, the page still froze, but after a few seconds, I did regain mouse movement though it would still freeze sporadically, but the keyboard access came back and I was able to engage the task mgr and kill the browser without shutting down the entire computer.
Troubleshooting extensions and themes
Check and tell if its working.
I checked all the add-ons, extensions yada yada etc and none were reporting issues or in need of being updated. Looking around the other forums, it appears it is the plugincontainer.exe (circa Ff 3.6.4?), that is not performing its function as a streamlined internet liaison for the browser apps. Likewise discovered yesterday that when I was able to shutdown firefox and attempt to restart, it indicated there was an existing Ff thread, so I 'killed' the thread that was showing, but when I 'killed' the accompanying plugincontainer, it froze my computer again. I've pretty much lost any faith in Ff at this point, I had more problems months ago when I attempted to upgrade to either 4 or 5, which is why I returned to 3.6xxx and I was likewise not impressed with Chrome.

Based on my last input, I followed the instructions I found elsewhere, to disable the plugin container and tonight tested it on the WEather Channel's video page and harassed the page as much as i could. No problems indeed the plugincontainer was the culprit no idea why Firefox would engage such an incompetent partner to their browser.
