My Vista system motherboard died, so bought new Windows 7 system, and have old Vista drive working as second data drive. When setting up Win 7, installed Firefox 4.0 (had 3.xx on Vista). You need to copy a file called places.sqlite from your old profile folder to your current profile folder. (Firefox stores user data in the profile folder)

If you want you can copy more than just the bookmarks, for details see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile
