Second level google searches broken in multiple firefox versions when not signed into google accounts and starting search is from www.google.com/
Hey there, I don't know if you have noticed this, but in Firefox, old and new versions alike, trying to do a search on a resulting page while not being logged into a google account does nothing.
If you search from www.google.com while not signed into their google accounts, the resulting page no longer allows you to use another search.
Tried hitting enter, nothing. tried hitting the search button, nothing.
Switched to the pc next to me, same results.
asked multiple coworkers to do the same thing and they all had similar results. This is across platforms. PPC macs, newer intel based macs, pcs.
I went to www.google.com and searched for "this is ok"
which sent me to: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=this+is+ok&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=C5rII5XIuTI7YOIXyzASyxoD_CwAAAKoEBU_QYOqu&fp=36ec6be010d257f
I then typed in "this is not"
The query string changes but nothing happens... I'm now at my box at home and it's an even DIFFERENT version of Firefox. It's not breaking in IE or chrome. 3.5.8 and up causing problems.
It seems to be a bit of their code that they changed which is doing it. I'm not using any addons or plugins. but on a different computer, I had a console open and here was the error:

Same issue here. Noticed it yesterday. Firefox 3.5.10, windows XP.
I can usually get a working search from the google home page, but trying to access additional pages of the results, or enter a new term into the search box on a results page gives nothing.
Turning off javascript is a workaround. (But not a great one.)
Similar problem with Firefox 3.6.6. I have to hit Ctrl-Shift-R to refresh before any of the links to subsequent pages work. That is, when I search for "euro in us dollars", and then try to hit the "next" arrow link at the bottom, or for that matter any of the numbered search pages, there is no action whatsoever. If I refresh the page, the first link I hit will work, but no subsequent links.
I hope Google isn't trying to break Firefox! :(
I hope you're not correct, but something to consider. I too have the same problem and I thought it was just on my desktop, but it's on all my laptops as well... even though I haven't changed anything on my laptops in some time. All different versions of FF 3.xxx.
What I found is that if you use this Google's IP address... http://74.125.43.147/ as your homepage in FF options, the second level search (http://www.google.com/#hl...xxx) doesn't show up and Google works as usual for all searches. Of course, your address bar will have Google's IP instead of Google.com, but heck who looks at that when on the home page anyways!
This is so weird and I think Google must have changed something that's affecting some (if not all) FF users. Hopefully the FF team is looking into this.
same - noticed yesterday at work (win xp) tried on both of my home computers (win 7) & ff 3.3.6
Actually, I also found it to be true on a laptop that still has FF version 1.5! Somethings up with Google!

Seemed to start doing this yesterday or today.
Disabling Javascript in Firefox temporarily fixes my problem. Originally, I investigated into this issue and noticed that when Firefox's user agent contain "Firefox 3" in it, it goofs up. Not to say that is the reason why it's happening, though. But if it were, that's one hell of a attempt to get people to download Chrome. *wink*

Same problem on Windows XP SP3.
Minefield (i.e. Firefox 4 beta) seems to have fixed the problem (temporarily?)...
I think as long as the user agent contains "Firefox 3" then it is affected by this issue. I confirmed this by testing some user agent ids. So, my guess is Firefox 4 shouldn't be affected.
I couldn't reproduce this problem. I block cookies from google.com but not javascript so that might have something to do with it.
I just posted a question for the same problem on the forum. On my computer if I switch to the 'Image' search tab and back to the 'Everything' search tab the problem temporarily resolves itself - provided you don't return to the Google front page. Until a fix arrives that might provide some temporary solace.
Hi, Brandon. Good to know. I have managed to get around it also by clicking Advanced Search first on the home page. Then, any follow-up searches seem to work.
Red #2, I had my Privacy setting set to "Never Remember History". Instead, I set it up for Custom and added the Block exception for Google and this fixes the issue. Good find.
I just changed my home page back to Google.com and search seems to be working as it did before... even with the redirect to http://www.google.com/#hl...xxx. Did Google fix the issue? Anyone notice this? I hope this isn't a temporary thing! Anyways, Google seems to be working now.
I changed my user agent to my google chrome user agent specifically for only google pages with the HeaderControl add-on. That got it to work for me.
Re-installed Firefox 3.6.7. Works ok now. Appears as if the "problem" (?) was with Google. All's well that ends...
