Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment as been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at getfirefox.com.

As for your question, I believe the answer is in finding an extension to do that. You can search the official add-ons gallery at addons.mozilla.org. I believe an extension called keyconfig will do it (it's not listed in the gallery, but it's perfectly safe, as per my experience). Contact its author if you need support.

I tried keyconfig. It gives you a list of existing hot keys and lets you change them, but it does not allow you to assign hot keys to menu (at least not in a userfriendly way). But I solved my problem using the wonderful Mac extension Butler by Peter Maurer. I've been using it intensively for 7 seven years without problems. Butler lets you assign a keyboard shortcut to any URL and lets you even choose the browser you want to use. And all in a very user-friendly way. I never used this facility with Safari, since it lets you have hot keys for bookmarks, but with Firefox now it's a useful feature. i recommend Butler to any Mac user
