I can't do anything with Firefox because I keep getting a message that it is still open, but it is not. How do i close it?

I wanted to refresh Firefox. When I downloaded the installer from the Mozilla website, I got this message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window." I finally downlaoded it from the App store and now I get this message "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."

I can't recollect doing anything lately that would have caused such a problem. I don't mess with the registry, and I don't use rogue programs. I do have a Surfshark VPN, which I disabled to download the latest version of Firefox.

I am running Windows 11 on a Dell PC, which is about 6 months old.

I didn't have any problems until reciently.

How can I fix this?

I fixed my problem. I made sure all software was up to date, disabled Surfshark VPN, disconnected my Seagate external hard drive, deleted all instances of Firefox in task manager, ran REVO uninstaller, and then downloaded Firefox directly from the Mozilla website. I had to run through the uninstall process more than once.

(I am disappointed that the Windows 11 uninstaller didn't completely remove all instances of Firefox.)

I then reconnected the external hard drive and enabled the Surfshark VPN.

Now Firefox works fine.

Glad to hear that! Thank you for sharing the solution here.
