So far hate new Firefox that I have been forced to switch to - very annoying and such a waste of my time trying to sort out my bookmarks. May make me switch to Edge or something.

Followed the instructions - C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ - found a backup but no information as to how to get the bookmarks into the new Firefox?????

Many of us are older users and perhaps not so savvy as to how to do this.

And so it would have been nice if Firefox could have been more "nice and be specific" with this forced change over.

Thank you

You can copy certain files with Firefox closed from one profile folder to another/current profile folder to transfer personal data. Note that best is to avoid restoring a full profile folder and only restore important files that are safe to restore/transfer.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • favicons: favicons.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
  • logins.json (encrypted logins) and key4.db (encryption key/primary password) for logins saved in the Password Manager
  • cert9.db for certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • persdict.dat for words added to the spell checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

Hi

What do you mean by being forced to switch to a new Firefox? Firefox should normally just update to the latest version available.

Hi Paul, when I opened up my usual Firefox the new one popped up and did not give me the option to update - just welcome to the new Firefox 149 - clicked on it and the old one disappeared never to be seen again. All good now after a hour or more of trying to locate all my bookmarks - VERY FRUSTRATING! but sorted and moving on.

Thanks,

Deborah
