Mailto does not work on Win 11 installation
I have just bought a new computer running the latest version of Win 11pro and the latest version of Firefox is installed. When I click on a mailto link it will not open, I have looked on the internet and as usual the instructions to do this and the you will see this, bear no resemblance to the reality of what I see on the screen and statements such as alter this but it does not say how. This is extremely annoying to this 80 year old non computer literate person especially when the mailto link works on my old computer running Win7 pro with the same email and internet programs installed. I have Edge, Opera and Firefox as internet browsers and use Thunderbird as my email program. Can anybody explain ALL the steps to be taken in plain English to cure this problem please?

I'll write down a quick checklist which you can follow in order:
- Open Thunderbird > menu > settings > general page, scroll to system interrogation > set as default, and close Thunderbird.
- Now, set MAILTO to Thunderbird in Windows 11.
- Click Start> Settings> Apps> Default Apps> type Thunderbird > Choose defaults for this app > find MAILTO, click it, and choose Thunderbird.
- Then, open Firefox > menu > settings > general > applications > find mailto and use Thunderbird as the default. If Thunderbird is not listed, choose another one and browse to the Thunderbird program.
- Lastly, restart everything, open & test Firefox, and click the mailto link. The Thunderbird should open a new message window with the address.
Thank you for your advice but it is of no use, as usual item 1 bears no reality to what I see on the screen. I have searched Thunderbird>menu>settings>general page but on scrolling there is no item marked "system interogation". So where do I go from here? Firefox V144.0 64bit
