Forward and Back Arrows Reversed

For some unknown reason on my Mac computer the forward and back browser arrows have moved to the right extreme side of the browser and have also revered ie > < I'm guessing something in settings has been changed accidentally. Can some please explain to a seventy year old man how to move them back to the left side of the browser and in correct order ie < > where they belong? Best Regards, WG
