Passwords not restoring

more options

I have tried every support advice I can find and no matter what I do passwords are not restoring. Here is what I have done: Opened about:profiles Opened profile folder Exit firefox transfer key4.db and signons.jstor files from backup to the new folder

Nothing happens.

I have tried creating new folders and following those steps. I have tried everything.

That normally works. To double-check which profile folder is the active one, could you use the Troubleshooting Information page? Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar or Alt+H) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, is that the one you've been pasting files into?

If you check the folder now, is there a logins.json.corrupt or other indication that Firefox doesn't like the file?

For some users, Firefox's password manager is disabled by an Enterprise Policy or perhaps by an add-on. However, even in those cases, I think you should be able to view your saved logins.

My profile matches the table under more troubleshooting and the folder opens when I click open. I don't know if this is an indicator of anything, but the root directory is there, but when I try to open the local folder there is nothing. I'm not sure if this is relevant.

The local folder mostly has temporary stuff like the web content cache. That isn't especially important, but I wonder why it isn't there at all. Do you have Firefox set to use automatic private browsing mode ("Never remember history")?

No, my history is on. It's like it wasn't automatically created when I made a new profile.

Hmm, okay, I'm not sure why not.

Turning back to the logins.json file, if you open it in a tab in Firefox -- after a few moments, it should display in a structured view -- can Firefox read it? The user name and password fields are encrypted, but you should be able to tell whether the other data is in good shape.

Yes, firefox can read it. It shows 76 logins and passwords. I tried refreshing firefox and it did nothing. And another thing that is so stupid about this is that I also had created a Firefox recovery key, but it only errors out every time I try to submit it.

If you put the logins.json and companion key4.db file together in a folder, you might be able to generate an importable CSV file using this tool:

And then

Import login and password data from a file

This is, I think, exactly what I need. I'll let you know if it works.

Okay, so I got it downloaded, selected my profile folder and I got an error that says: TypeError: Cannot read property "replace" of undefined. Any advice?

A property called replace? I'm not sure what that refers to.

Here is another third party tool you could consider: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/passwordfox.html
