I am trying to free up some disc space, so I ran Disk Cleanup, but no improvement.

It shows over 430MB Temporary Internet Files, all of which are under a padlock icon. The size just keeps on increasing from day to day.

How can I remove some or all these Temporary Internet Files and regain disc space?

Firefox whether on Windows, macOS, Linux uses a Cache and not Temporary Internet Files.
