My bookmarks are missing and the Bookmark Toolbar doesn't work
I don't know whether this happened after an update - there was one a few days ago, but I only realised this morning, after switching on the computer, that all my bookmarks are missing. The toolbar is there, empty, only reading "For quick access, place your bookmarks here on the bookmarks toolbar"... I wish! I tried to restore the bookmarks - but it seems there is no backup to restore at all. Then I tried to check my profiles, but there is only the one currently in use. Then I tried to move a tab to the bookmarks toolbar - and nothing happened. Then I began to panic: toolbar apart, we're speaking about years of bookmarks, most of them related to my research for my books... All the advice in the support seems to point towards profiles and backups, but, as I said, it's clearly not my case... Please, please, please: help!

Sorry, sorry, sorry: my husband just walked by, asked what the matter was, rolled his eyes, closed Firefox, opened it again - and... the missing bookmarks are back. I should have thought of it - but I panicked. Now I don't know how to cancel the thread - but the problem is solved.
The same thing happened to me after an update last night to version 141.0.2 Firefox Release August 5, 2025. I opened Firefox this morning and bookmarks were completely gone. There was a message below the URL / search input to the effect that you can manage bookmarks by clicking on a link. The bookmarks function was completely disabled, unable to create a bookmark clicking the star to the right of the URL. Syncing from the Firefox Account did not work. I finally checked Firefox Support and found the above post. Closed Firefox, re-opened it, magically the bookmarks re-appeared. Manage Bookmarks shows all of the bookmarks that were there yesterday.
