What is the installer helper? Your login to Firefox forum and posting so what is the helper your referring to?

I can't speak for the other person, but I encountered this issue as well. This is on macOS running the current version of Sequoia, 15.3.2. It has been happening with Thunderbird and Firefox ever since I refused the Thunderbird installer helper permission to discover my devices, although I don't know whether that's related.

I normally install upgrades on user A (standard user) but this time I installed it on user B (also standard user). I originally installed Firefox years ago on user A.

Now when I try to launch Firefox on user B, I get a dialog:

"Firefox is trying to install a new helper tool. Enter an administrator's name and password to allow this."

I believe this is the "installer helper" the original poster is referring to.

I normally get this dialog when upgrading, but I normally only get it once, then upon entering the admin name and password and clicking Install Helper, I then get a notification that software from Mozilla Corporation added items that can run in the background, and then Firefox relaunches.

In the current situation, on user B, after getting the notification, Firefox doesn't relaunch. And then if I try to relaunch Firefox, I get the "Firefox is trying to install a new helper tool." dialog all over again and I have to force quit Firefox.

I was able to upgrade Firefox subsequently on user A, so I would guess there's some file in user B's library that is triggering this, but I don't know what file that might be.

The problem is, even though I've upgraded to the current version of Firefox, the helper dialog is still occurring for user B. Responding with the admin name and password gets the notification, but doesn't remedy the situation. It's an endless loop.

I tried deleting install.ini in user B's Library/Application Support/Firefox and Firefox just recreates it. I tried force quitting Firefox, removing:

[Install{redacted}] Default=Profiles/{redacted}.default-release Locked=1

from profiles.ini as well as deleting profiles.ini and installs.ini and relaunching Firefox and it just recreates both files.

How do I clear Firefox on user B from this loop?
