Have noticed other nags with the same info box. So annoying I hope FF didn't do it !

That's from the site. It's confirming you want to leave before saving what your entered. Mark this issue as resolved if you have no further questions.

Now the question that begs askance is: What can be done to stop that sort of garbage ?

I have made many changes like that in the past in about:config. Especially with FF as I have learned, now the question morphs into unintended consequences of one change to about:config to solve one problem and can induce many unpleasant surprises. Like Windows did in many releases, one set of issues was exchanged for a new set of issues...
