I'm using a new laptop so everything is a fresh install. A few of the newsletters I've signed up for are now using GetResponse for their marketing. Any link I click on in these emails leads me to a "The page you're looking for doesn't exist" error 404. No matter what I try (disabling all extensions & setting Firefox's config setting 'extensions.blocklist.enabled' to false). Both of the companies that send the newsletters as well as GetResponse don't really seem to care and just blame Firefox. Can anyone help me fix this... if in fact it's something on my laptop that's creating the issue? I only use Firefox browser... nothing else and would hate to starting using some unsafe browser just to access these links. Thanks.

Please keep extensions.blocklist.enabled set to true. That prevents malicious add-ons from running in your Firefox.

If you right-click the link and Copy Link, then paste the link somewhere that you can read the whole thing, does it look sensible? Often bulk mail links run through a tracking service and there can be a variety of formats for them. Sometimes the "real" link is evident from the tracking link, and sometimes it's coded or shortened.

If you open the same email a different way, whether in Microsoft Edge or a stand-alone mail program, is the link any different?

It does not work when I copy the link and paste it into a new tab... get same "page doesn't exist" error page. The links do work if I open then on my phone but I'm using my phones mail app and they are opened in the Firefox app.

Like I said, I tried to see if it was any extensions I'm using (ad blocker, canvas blocker, stop facebook tracking) by shutting them off but nothing seem to work. I don't recall having these issues on my old (windows 10) laptop but then perhaps these sites just started using GetResponse marketing platform.

The server gives me a redirect to another site, so the link is valid.

What is the address of the page that says the page doesn't exist? Is it on that site (hungryjpeg) or on the true destination site (lovesvg)?

I didn't see a GetResponse link. What does that link look like? You can add a space before the .com (or other top level domain) to avoid your post going into the spam link moderation queue. For example:

If you check the address bar on the error page and compare with the original link, are any of the parameters missing?

Oh, it's shifting to a new page, so you can't see exactly what Firefox sent to the site. If you check History (Ctrl+Shift+H), does the Library window show the full URL that Firefox requested, or only the address of the error page?

@cor-el I will give that a try in tomorrow... Need to do a backup as the laptop froze on me earlier with non-responsive keyboard, mouse and power button (too frustrated :) )

Thank you for the screenshot. It looks like Firefox sent the site the full URL, so I'm not sure why it had difficulty forwarding to the correct site. Are there any external filters or proxies that might be modifying your browsing requests?

To prevent Firefox from using a proxy server defined at the system level:

Open the Settings page using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings (previously "Options")
  • type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter to load it

In the very tiny search box at the top of the page, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Network Settings" section.

Click the Settings button, select "No Proxy" near the top of the dialog, and click OK near the bottom of the dialog.

Any difference?

@jscher2000 - Just as I thought, its already set to 'no proxy' - getting annoying, isn't it :)

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
