Oppening without opening a ton of tabs
Recently, when opening a new Firefox session, it seems that all of my recent site visits open as active tabs are opened at once, slowing everything down. Is there a setting I need to change?

Instead of checking the "Open previous windows and tab", you need to uncheck that to prevent Firefox to open your previous tabs.
Do you have the restore from previous session setting on by chance? If so, you can disable the feature by going to the top-right corner menu > Settings > General > Startup > Uncheck the "Open previous windows and tabs" option.
