Hi fellows.

I'm using Firefox accounts for long time, to be specific from Created ⁨6/26/2015⁩ as my Firefox account page says at password field, And lately starts to notice that a lot of saved logins and some history are missing. I have checked when oldest Last Modified item, it appears to be from Last modified: October 5, 2018 So, there is at least 3 years of lost data. Is it something normal!! Or its because i have a limited saving i guess. Or apparently logins and history older than 5 years are removed!? Please i want more details about these things, if as i guessed that 5 years old data will be removed, i have to save them in another sources. it maybe an issue in my PC i can fix and get these old data.

Really thank you and appreciate your time. Thank you.

Backup is always a good idea. However, passwords are normally not being deleted on their own. My oldest passwords on this device are from 2011.

At some time in the past there have been issues caused by security software causing passwords to get lost.

Do you possibly have a logins.json.corrupt in the Firefox profile folder ?

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

Thank you, but in my case unfortunately I have a lot of missing logins.

Yeah I have actually find two logins.json.corrupt files like so.

  • user@user ~/.mozilla/firefox/RANDOMSTRING.default $ ls -la logins*
  • -rw------- 1 user user 190187 Jun 10 17:32 logins-backup.json
  • -rw------- 1 user user 190187 Jun 10 19:21 logins.json
  • -rw------- 1 user user 0 May 21 18:56 logins.json-1.corrupt
  • -rw------- 1 user user 0 Oct 5 2018 logins.json.corrupt

As you see, I have two 0 byte json.corrupt. And I'm using linux too.

Thanks for your time.

logins.json and logins-backup.json have the same file length, so it is likely that they have the same logins and can't be used, but you can still try logins-backup.json and key4.db in a new profile to check this out. The presence of a corrupt file usually means that at that time there was a problem with creating a new logins.json

Do you have other profiles including the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop that still could have older logins files ?

That's unfortunate :/

I have checked if logins-backup.json has same data as normal file and it is. And as you have seen in my previous post, both files shows very close date and time.

Aha, I see, so there was in Oct 5 2018 and May 21 2022 some logins loss? but both files are 0 byte! As I have mentioned in my OP, I really mentioned that date October 5, 2018 before checking files of Firefox. So that's mean that there was an issue in that date and I have lost all my data before it?

No I don't have any other profiles or users in my own Laptop, Its only for my usage, with a single user and a single profile in Firefox.

So at the end, is there anything to do to try recovering my data?
