I've long used firefox for research using google scholar and science journals to directly import references into endnote. However, since the recent update (firefox v98) direct import of .ris files (endnote) is no longer possible. The only option is to download the file.

There is no option to configure these file extensions in settings, and no prompt asking how to handle them...only where to download.

Please recover this function, as firefox is becoming increasingly unusable (loyal firefox user since 2002).

Hi, it would be better to file this as a bug on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi

I have a similar problem. Since I upgraded Firefox I cannot directly import .ris files to zotero which previously has worked without any problems. I even do not get the chance to open the file with the "What should Firefox do with this file?"-dialogue but am only given the choice to save the .ris file. I have tried downloading files from several different publishers and sites, always with the same result. Perhaps it is caused by the new download routines implemented in Firefox which other users have hinted to:

https://support.mozilla.org/mk/questions/1370494

I have therefore tried reverting this in about:config by changing browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel but without any success. According to the support, it should be possible to change the default option for different file types (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file#w_changing-download-actions) but if I hold down the control key and click on the file in the Downloads panel there is no option "Always Open Similar Files" and .ris files are not listed in the Applications section in the preferences (even if I have downloaded lots of .ris files). I even explored the handlers.json file but was not able to figure out what to add to get this to work.

I realized it is possible to import .ris files but only by downloading the file and then clicking the file name in the Downloads panel but that is much more cumbersome than before when I could do all of this via the keyboard.
