Firefox using all pc resources on start and not loading any pages

This started happening this morning when I booted up my PC.

I started Firefox, and the fans on my PC went crazy, opened up task manager only to see that firefox was apparently using 60% of my CPU and 12GB of RAM. For reference my CPU is Ryzen 9 5900x and I have 32GB of RAM, so this behavior is very strange.

And I wasn't trying to open a lot of tabs, or some resource crunching web app. My homepage is google, and that's what was supposed to open. I even tried to access my router on the local network, since I thought that maybe firefox suddenly just can't get out to the internet, and same thing happened.

I tried resetting firefox to default, reinstalling, checking other browsers to see if they work, checked the support page for similar issues, but found none. If anyone has any suggestions please say, firefox has been my regular browser since the late 2000s, and I'd hate to have to use something else.

Thanks
