This morning on my laptop, FF refused to open any websites - literally nothing happened when using bookmarks or the address bar. Settings" doesn't open either. FF worked fine yesterday and other browsers work normally.

I tried it in troubleshoot mode which made no difference and then updated to 9.3.0, which didn't help either. I made a Macrium system backup file and then I did a Macrium system restore to a fortnight ago when FF was working, but the problem was still there.

So i 'restored back' and reluctantly did a reset of firefox. Now i seem to have lost all my bookmarks and passwords (although i can't properly check as settings still won't open) and FF still doesn't work, with exactly the same symptoms.

And I have a folder called Old Firefox Data on my desktop

I am completely stuck, please help!

Thanks, but you know meanwhile i'm pretty sure i've solved the problem. In a moment of divine inspiration i disabled MWBAE and FF worked, albeit stripped of all bookmarks, passwords etc. So i restored to my most recent Macrium back-up, disabled MWBAE again and all is sweetness and light. I've reported the issue to MWB and i'm awaiting their comments

Sometimes when the browser thinks there is a problem with the profile, it will create a new one. Let's work on the browser issue first.

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

Install both 32-bit and 64-bit "Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019" downloads, (x86: vc_redist.x86.exe and x64: vc_redist.x64.exe) from https://support.microsoft.com/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

You may not need the latter (32-bit version) if you use 64-bit Firefox. You may have to reboot the computer.

Once the browser is working;

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.
