The recent update just butchered the clean design Firefox had and now it's all horrible and even messed up my custom theme, I want to revert this unnecessary design update.

Hi, There's a Firefox theme on the addons site called Photon Colors, which I found helps a lot.

Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/photon-colors/ and click on Install Theme.

I'm not asking for the theme, I have a custom theme I made myself, I'm talking about the actual design of the browser.

Hi RedEyedRocker, there's no easy way to revert all the changes. There is a temporary preference for Firefox 89 that reverts most of the tab bar and some of the address bar changes. That might tide you over until you can update your CSS.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new UI) and false (old UI)

This preference was retained only for testing and might be a touch glitchy, but if you need it, you need it.

This is no longer working since the recent update v91.0

Hi

As mentioned previously, this preferences was only retained for testing and has now been removed.

So there's no way to disable proton other than downgrading back to v88.0.1? Since my update history shows that was the version I had before the ugly UI update.

Hi RedEyedRocker, there are unofficial/community-supported workarounds for Proton changes such as the spacing of menu items and the shape of tabs. I have collected some of them here:

Other pages on the site have information on how to set up your userChrome.css file.

That seems like too much effort for something that doesn't restore the old look completely. An add-on that does all the job with 1 click would be way more convenient. And if it isn't compatible with my theme then it'd be a waste of time.

So, I'd rather just downgrade at this point.

Add-ons cannot modify toolbars beyond color changes.

The tab styler code generator doesn't change the colors, so it should work with any theme. What theme are you using?

Old versions of Firefox are always available but not recommended: Install an older version of Firefox.

I'm using my own custom theme, I'm not talking about change of colors but how the proton UI ruins the overall look of my theme.

Warning: Installing a previous version doesn't fix most problems

Problems with an update are generally not caused by the new version of Firefox, but rather the update process. Installing a previous version will not help in most cases. The best option is to start a new thread about your issues, where others can suggest specific solutions.

Using old versions of Firefox also poses a significant security risk. Anyways, I already got the old version I had from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases Also manually disabled the downgrade protection and got my profile working fine without any corruptions then disabled updates via Local Group Policy Editor.

I'd much rather have a great experience with less security than terrible experience with latest security.

Okay, well, if you decide to share your theme somewhere so I can test it with my styler rules, let me know. Otherwise, neither of us knows what will happen when you cross the beams.

Thanks but it's a private theme for my personal use only so I don't intend on distributing it ever.
